Well, Woody, you were right when you said work bench. It's a cobbler's bench, specifically. My old man brought it home (he was an antique dealer) and we used it as a piece of furniture in the house when I was growing up. It basically served as a coffee table/footstool. I just sort of inherited it.

Back in the day a customer would have stood on the bench to have his feet measured and lasted.

I dunno about that, CRH. You may be right, but I don't see much room for a customer to stand on the thing. I always assumed that the cobbler sat on the rounded seat part to do the lasting while the customer was seated across from him, and then the cobbler turned around the other way to make the shoes, and had the little compartments to keep hobnails or whatever right at his disposal. Admittedly, I know very little about the cobbler's craft.

Today at the lake it was a vintage milan.

Sometime in the past the sweat was replaced and I cant tell the make of this one. But its a great hat !
