Fur felt pillbox today, attracting reactions ranging from Jackie Kennedy to flight attendant . I'll stick to the first one... I actually made it to wear for the opening of an exhibition of pictures of JFK and Jackie.

I love it! That was a great era for women's hats.

Yeah... I think of myself as a freak, too.

The problem with using that language in polite (and impolite for that matter) company is that folks sometimes start looking to see if I have a hunchback or deceased conjoined twin attached somewhere. On the other hand, weirdo doesn't carry the same risk of stirring up antiquated and unfortunate prejudices against people who might have physical differences from most other folks.

Call me unconventional... yes, that works for me. Would make a great song, too.

Meh. I'll stick with freak, and fly my flag high. I'm too old and set in my ways to change now.

Finally took the Game Bird out for a test flight today

Windy, too. I was afraid it was really going to go for a flight of it's own!

Esther, you should insert a second tag inside your hats:
"Warning, Esther Weis Millinery can seriously damage your wealth."
Trouble is, there's no known cure for an addiction to your hats, other than to disconnect the internet and move as far as it's feasibly possible from Belgium.
You wear that contrasting colour majestically, so much so that Tina & I will probably bring a wallet full of cash in March to feed our hat addiction. The straw that you made me, the one getting all the compliments on the EWM thread, is a match made in heaven for the shirt Tina made me as a Christmas gift. Matched to cream trousers and red & cream two tone Gibson shoes, I disappear when I get into the old MG. I must get a full length photo so that you can see the effect.

Not a bad place to put up your feet, Jeremiah. Drive safe. Nice SST.

Thank you. We made it through all of PA and the storm that was moving north. Was tough with summer tires on our rental. I grew up in pa so it brought back lots of memories driving on winter condition roads. I will not lie, I don't miss that.

This twenty has such nice felt but it's thick feeling Compared to my stratoliner and even my whippets.
Is his just the way the sovereigns all feel?

Jeremiah, I only have one sovereign Twenty but I would describe it as thick, substantial but pliable. Definitely a cooler weather hat not nearly as thin as my Whippet, Stetson 25 or a couple others I have but still one of my favorites.

Safe travels.

I've had a love/hate relationship with the rust colored ribbon that comes stock on Stetson's Racine model since I first laid eyes on it.

Earlier this month I worked up the courage to let Van at JJ Hat Center swap it out for one that matches the trim. So, debuting for the very first time....(insert drumroll, preferably played by the Lounge's one and only @moontheloon)...my modded Stetson Racine:

Giddy up.

Totally changes the look of the hat, and it's great. Also, now we know of three Racines on the Lounge (with RJR and me).

Wow Daniele!! Sending hats from Italy to the US for restoration? That's some serious commitment! Where did you get a better restauration, Italy or the US?
Cristina is not easy to give an answer.
This would require the time and above all to have in hand the restored hats
I did not restore many hats, only those for the basic price and the quality they deserve.
Only the Borsalino so far and paid figures are a small investment made on the quality of the hat
The Italian approach (Sergio Anzani - Cappelleria Melagari Milan) restoration is very conservative. The intention is to keep the original parts also in extremely precarious conditions. The intent is to restore the hat piece by piece with the preservation of its essence in form and felt.
The US approach (Bob at Black Sheep Hats Work) is more directed to meet customer needs. In my case two Borsalino they needed a new ribbon and sweatband. For a Borsalino fifties Bob found a liner of its time that went to fill that gap.
I was pleased with both of them, although times to wait were very long, but it was worth it.
Honestly I tell you that I would BSHW closer to Verona so I could try to refurbish a new pair of hats that have some fit problems.
The problem of restoring vintage hats is large and in Europe there are not many hatters suited to the need, so for a couple of hats I had to make do on their trip overseas.
When you will pass from Verona you will see the work so you can evaluate for yourself.
