What do you think of this suit trousers/casual checked shirt combo from a 1950s Sears catalog?

I like it, but I'm wary of it coming across as contrived.

Note the matching belt.

I don't like the matching belt, but I like the trousers and check shirt (assuming the trousers are heavy wool, which would make them casual enough to go with the shirt in my mind).

What a coincidence. I am wearing a similar outfit today but with maroon and tan tones for the shirt & trouser.
Don't be contrived and you won't come off as such.
