What about the smell?

How do you get rid of the smell of the cigars you smoke? Do you wear special clothes? Do you only smoke when you're not going to make a bad impression on someone that day? What are the best and worst things to wear?

Generally, those of us who are regular cigar smokers just don't care anymore. I also don't smoke before work, but I only burn one on road trips and weekends.

I would certainly not smoke anywhere you don't want to smell it later. Anything you can wash in your laundry is better than something you get to dry clean.

Wool is horrible about collecting the odor. On the other hand, it's great at collecting the odor. (The prevalence of wool in menswear was, in my opinion a secondary consideration in its use in smoking jackets.) For convenience, anything that can be balled up and washed in short order is a good idea.

I live in an apartment currently, and so don't smoke indoors. It's nice to get out for a walk and cigar, however, particularly at this time of the year. I recommend a pipe for smoking inside, or when you may need to meet with someone soon thereafter. For some reason, pipe smell disappears almost immediately.

I just ddon't care about the smell. But then I always smoke outside and usually only smoke a single cigar in the evening after work so I don't end up carrying the smell around with me.

That is why there are silk smoking jackets. Silk repels smoke and most other smells perfectly.
I smoke cigars usually at the end of my day after dinner so I really don't care much about who shows up during or afterward.

That hasn't been my experience. My Grandaddy Harvey smoked Rough Country chewing tobacco in a pipe daily if not continuously. He died in 1979 and Mosquitoes wouldn't fly in the house in 1982. Pipe smoke generally smells better, but I sure notice it for a while.

I don't have any trouble of my clothing or home smelling of the cigars or pipe I smoke and I am not simply immune to such smells, I have a very keen sense of smell and my poor wife comes home from working at a casino every night reeking of cigarette smoke.

I should like to add, wool is not an odor collecting fabric. One of the many reasons it was still worn even in summer time was it kept a persons personal body odors in check. If wool starts to become quite rancid smelling all you need do is hang it outside for a bit and let it air out. THIS WORKS GREAT FOR SMOKE! I work with wool fabric day in and day out for a living and most of my historical uniforms and clothing are wool. Some of those impressions I NEVER wash the jacket or pants at all, just hang them out to air out after an event.

it seems the smell sticks more to clothes in colder, wetter weather.
I designate a smoking jacket for the winter (I smoke in the garage and have a space heater).

I also smoke in my truck, and have found the ozone/ionization devices work quite well (for as long as they last)
