Never tried bear meat... nor moose meat... those are not common in Europe.

Anyway my "new" hat arrived. This black Tom Mix. Now I have one I can wear on all weather and keep the other one cleaned and in better shape.

Put this stuff on ANY critter on earth and you can eat it. Young and tender - throw it on the grill, old and ornery - stuff it in the crock pot.

To keep things on track, here's a couple of my western hats.

Thanks Bamaboots and Hatophile.

Perry, our resident Stetson gurus tell me this hat is most likely from the 50s. I found it at a junk shop for $6. When the man told me the price my money came out of my pocket so fast I'm surprised it didn't burn up.

Dale, both hats look great on you. I especially like the Sun Records tee-shirt. A lot of legendary music artists got their start from that studio. Jerry Lee Lewis was my favorite from there.

Joao, if you keep rescuing all those Western hats there'll be no more brims to cut down for conversions!

Thunderball, very nice.

Renault, love the scenery. Perfect setting...the hat looks great.

Seems like a good thread to post my latest Western / Fedora conversion. The hat is of an unknown maker. Only the store name is identified on the sweat and on the liner, Sherwood Saddlery, 100% Genuine Fur. I re-blocked this hat twice and I finally got most of the original taper out of the crown. Afterward, I sewed on a 3 ply ribbon with a simple knot and tails. Also trimmed the brim to 3 inches wide and reshaped it....

Thanks TJ. That latest of yours is a nice one. Looks great. I could see it worn both with nice clothes or blue jeans.
I'm a big Jerry Lee fan myself, but the Elvis is my favorite. I have a big CD box set from Sun records that covers everything from rockabilly and country to blues and gospel. Honestly, I'd be hard pressed to pick anything on it that I didn't like.

Harv, Dale, Perry, thanks guys. I appreciate the comments.

Dale, Sun had a sound of its own. Great Rockabilly stuff. A lot of Rock and Country music artists got their start there, including Elvis. I had quite a large collection of original Sun records at one time, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, to name a few.

Dont kno if he recorded on the Sun lable but I love Johnny Burnette's style of Rockabilly. Just a bit edgy.

Great hat Renault!

Had the opportunity this morning to make a dash over to Texas Hatters in Lockhart Texas to get my new Resistol finished out to my liking. Sorry. Can't really see new horsehair hat band. They put a nice curl on the brim for me! I like it!!!

Great pencil roll. At least you get some good BBQ in Lockhart.
I've got one Texas Hatters hat. I only wear fur felt, but I wear them everyday. I'm in the hill country and punch cattle. Well, I did until I got old and my meniscus in my leg messed up.
My Grampa used to say straw hats were for farmers. ヅ

Hats here just keep getting better! Nice hats all!!!

Bigbuc! I knew an old cowboy from up north Texas that used to say a straw hat was an abomination in the eyes of the Lord! LOL! To each his own!!!

TJones!
You always come up with the nicest hats! And I gotta say I am a big fan of your "campaign ribbon" hats you put together!!! Well done!

There are a lot of spectacular hats here. Just received this one today via EMS while I'm in Vietnam. It's an Akubra Arena. I just love it. It's been years since I wore a cowboy hat and when I first put it on I thought holy cow thats a big brim. It's growing on me though. chAA2 small.jpg
