Man I love these discussions, makes me think of yesteryear when I would scour these threads for similar convos. Dating Stetsons is also an head scratcher, hopefully Alan catches wind of this soon and lays down his insight. Great hats either way!

Pre 40s Stetson Western's .. best thread ever!

I always liked Mark's adage, not every hat's a unicorn. No matter how bad we want it to be.

Stetson made 1000s of em' right?! Still, they were viewed as expendable and finding the 50s and earlier examples, in large enough sizes to wear, can be challenging! At least for "new" guys like me.

My "Bob H" Arminto. Bob told me he risked his life pulling this thing out of a very pissed off dust devil. This was obvious when I got it. Robert @belfastboy did a great job making once again safe to wear.

Gorgeous hat. Robert @belfastboy did a great job on it. It’s a real talent to repair and freshen up these old hats without causing them to lose their character.

According to some Loungers they're still expendable; they're just objects.

As far as the Arminto goes it has been established that the Arminto first appeared in catalogs in the 1920's & last appeared as far as can currently be documented in 1957. You would have to rely on other indicators exactly where in that timeline your Arminto dates. I guess I don't get your point?

It is always a tough call as to how much should I restore a hat it without it losing at least some of its well earned 'wear and tear' or patina. The hat came out fairly clean but there was a part of me that wanted to change out the ribbon too as the original did not clean up much at all. I love the bash you put into it.

Brent, Robert, thanks! Brent you gotta see the black Arminto Robert brought up a size cleaned up. The felt on that hat is so sweet and since we lost a little brim because of re-size up, it's crown looks twice as towering.
