I'll Lock Up

I've been pulling out my westerns over the last 3 weeks or so and for the most part, I've changed the profile on nearly every one as I steamed and refreshed them for cooler weather, if it ever gets here. Still have a few to go and I'll post them as I go along.

This No. 1 Quality may have seen the most radical change. It's my only 4 dent that I converted from a rancher's crease. I enjoyed it as it was but after HJ posted his Worth-Walden recently, I had to change this one. I told Jack I plagiarized his hat, and I did my best. I lowered the front and raised the rear to the crown's limits. 4 in the front and 5 1/2 in the rear. I did a 1/4' curl on the brim with a slight draw to the front.

Very cool film. Very cool hats, not just Mix's. I am bit surprised at his popularity. I was not aware that western movie stars were so well received in Europe so early in the movie era.

I don't think it's so surprising, scb when you consider Buffalo Bill toured Europe in 1892 to great success which generated a lot of interest in the American west and that continued on as so many of the early silent films were westerns and the first commercially viable film made was a western in 1903, "The Great Train Robbery".

I believe your Beaver Brand hat is of substantially finer quality than the one I picked up recently.

Changed out this Dorer a bit by lowering the fenders and putting a thumb width roll along the edge and tightened the pinch. These are nice hats and I know nothing of their top end hats that reach $10,000 but outside of the unique sweat and the natural color I really like, it’s nothing special for a $500 hat. They market it as their ‘Working Cowboy’ hat.

That's quite a sweat seam stitch! Seems like that would be thick, lumpy?

Jeff, I thought maybe you were playing a harmonica so I played with the exposure a bit to see. Ended up trying to make it an old time look. I like the appearance of peeling wallpaper & woodgrain on the door in the background & the spider cracking across the front. You need a bottle of Old Crow & a glass on that table. Hope the tones come across on your monitor.
