Wearing a fedora backwards?

Today I was watching an old 80's TV show, "Voyagers!", specifically the episode on the 2nd DVD called "Cleo and the Babe" where towards the end it looks like they somehow managed to get Jon-Erik Hexum into his fedora... backwards?!

I notice that the ribbon appears to be on the left, but clearly the side dents are at the rear of his head. The brim also looked (in other shots) to be snapped down but ... not quite properly.

Am I seeing things, or did wardrobe somehow get the detail wrong, hoping nobody would notice for 25 years?

I know a lot of fedoras were worn without pinches, just a crease in the crown. The famous photo of Conan creator Robert E. Howard springs to mind.

I'm picturing the hat being shaped like Robert's, but someone in wardrobe removing it from behind by the crown after a shoot.
Either that, or the actor's head puckers the crown due to bad sizing.

I don't think the hat's backwards, I just think for whatever reason, they decided to put the dents at the back of the hat. I've seen weirder styles in fedoras. -M

Mister ISOPOD?

The bow seems to be in the proper position, so I think that the assessment that whoever styled it placed the pinches in the back rather than the more usual place is right.

In the film Five Star Final (1931), Edward G. Robinson wears an elaborately styled hat with pinches at the front and back and some other curious details.

You'll also see a hat with front and back pinches on John Wayne in The Quiet Man (the scene where he meets Maureen O'Hara outside the church).

...on a side note, I'm going with he put it on backwards, they've made bigger goofs in the movies.
Sal Mineo in Rebel Without a Cause = Natalie Wood points out that he had on mismatched socks, then in next scene they are on the other feet!
A backward hat is no big deal & happens often, especially with cattleman creases....
