Wear the Pin?

FL! noticed a Bailey with a Bailey name pin on their hats. I know it comes with the hat but do you wear the hat with it? Curious. Or is it like keeping a cigar label on a stick your smoking? Opine (sp?) please.

back in the day when I believed that a woman is only a woman but a cigar is a smoke;) I always peeled off the band, I am waiting for my first hat [camptown Indy on it's way] and I would NOT wear anything on the outside, even when I get the gray. I will proudly fly his window sticker on my car and show off the liner to any who are interested.

so unless it is a REALLY fancy pin I would remove it

In my view, pins like this cannot come off fast enough. I bought a Bailey "Helmsley" panama last summer that I really like -- but that pin came off within minutes.

At some point in the last couple of years, it appears that Borsalino began to engage in the heinous practice of printing "Borsalino" vertically on the knot of the bow on certain models of their hats. Blah! Don't know if they are still doing it, but I hope they come to their senses...

Advertising is for ballcaps -- not fedoras. ;)

Pin on / Feathers out

I have a Stetson with a pin that I prefer to leave on the hat. It is small unobtrusive but allows a branding ID for the sharp eyed.

Now the feathers come out, I just feel the feathers are not condusive to the look I like.

(I leave the cigar band on, as it allows others to see what it is I am smoking whether something obscure or a well known brand. I also tend to damage the wrapper sometimes if I should try to remove the band, so I leave it on.)

I recently bought a new stetson fedora that had a "STETSON" pin. It was gold colored, and not too obtrusive, so I thought I'd keep it. It was, however fastened on crooked. As I removed it, to put it on right, it BROKE! After that, I'll probably not leave such a cheap piece of junk in a hat. I want to get rid of the feathers, too, but my wife insists I keep them, so I do (for a little while).

It depends . . .

On most "new" hats the pin comes off . . .
To me, they are cheap, and look cheap.

Now on some customes and vintage, I keep the pin . . . Say the a Strat that still has its original pin, or the Route 66 by Art Fawcett . . .

And I wear a few vintage pins I have picked up on OFAS. (I am stil looking for an oil derrick pin for my favorite Open Road . . . anyone has any leads - let me know!:) )

As for feathers . . . they gotta go!

I guess it really depends for me. I have a modern Stetson that has a pin on it and I haven't thought of removing it for two years; that is until recently (and before this post was started).

I have a Bailey cap with a pin as well, but I don't think it could be removed even if I wanted to.

I guess it just depends on the hat in particular and if a certain pin causes it to look more distinguished, or cheap.

I found the pin on the Bay. After John in Covina named my hat I searched the bay and within the week it came up. I was lucky!

I usually don't the pins. I had one I liked a lot but it came off after about an hour of wearing. :eusa_doh:

I do not wear any logo T shirts and I take the pin and feather off any hat before I ever wear it, always. I do have a DC-6 pin on my hats, but it advertises for nobody, unless there is a market right now for DC-6's.

Anyone have a Resistol pin....
I have been on the look out for you one for most of a year. I will keep searching.

I like some pins [ my DC-3 on my Stratoliner.. the FFA on my Campdraft and my John Deere on my work hat] but as a rule I dont like the newer pins that come on hats.

I've taken all the feathers and pins off my collection of hats. Not the look for me, personally. I also find it appalling that Borsalino would print their name on the ribbon, as someone in here mentioned.
