Warm weather travel hat?

I'll be spending some time in Florida, Texas & the SouthWest this Summer. And while I've got some fine cotton dress shirts and linen jackets and such that I can stay cool in, I'd like to bring a hat to give me some shade.

Traditionally, this would be a Panama, but I'm not sure I've ever seen a crushable Panama, and I wouldn't want to fly with any hat that's not.

I've heard that the Tilley is a very durable hat.
Perhaps, the LTM6 AirFlo or the TH5 Hemp hat.

I was thinking of the Borsalino Traveler in brown or the Christy's foldaway.
I've seen linen caps, but those don't really provide a whole lot of shade for the back and sides .

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Rafter, have you tried www.NogginTops.com ? The're an online hat business, and right in Connecticut. They carry the Tilly line and others. Good customer service too. There is also sever members of the FL as I'm sure you are aware. Aaron Hats, and Bencraft Hats. I have an old Tilly that I wear all the time hiking and kayaking.

I have been looking at that for a couple of seasons now & have yet to drop the hammer on it. It just sounds too good to be true. If it is true, it would be exactly what I need. I would be very interested to read an unbiased review after it arrives.

Hay Tomasso Nice looking rollable Panama. Where did you get it form? Can you give us a little bit of a review?

My Augusta Hat from Miller Hats is very much a hat that can take a modest amount of abuse. It is soft where as the brown colored hats are stiff.
As nice as this hat is the hats PanamaBob have are a notch above and will also take some abuse. Now I am not talking sit on the hat abuse I mean the normal knock it off, wind blown and even a little rain has not harmed my Augusta Hat. But I have also treated it to make it water proof.

I replaced the ribbon recently but the hat rolled up and went to Texas and Mexico none the worse for wear. All I did was after we arrived at our room I unrolled the hat kinda shaped it a little and hung it up to relax the shape. My recent hat that Art redid was a rollable from PanamaBob but it was really nice so I had a leather sweat put in, in place of the cloth one.

The rollables are really cheap, don't pay too much. Heck, the Torcidos are too! I need to get a secret special page for lounge members. Don't want to break any rules, however! Just don't pay too much!

If this is more of a one shot deal for this summer, why not just spend under $20 and get something from Burlington Coat Factory / Marshalls / etc.? Even some pharmacies carry cheap straws, not to mention department stores like J.C. Penneys. If you plan on wearing one regularly ever summer, I'd say invest the money, but not if it's a one-and-done situation.
