Visible Sweatband

Rafferty

New in Town
I just got my first panama fedora ($50 made in Ecuador) from one of the known vendors here, and I've been wearing it for several weeks with the brim low over the eyes. I just noticed that when I tilt it back or lift my face and look in the mirror, I can clearly see the edge of the cotton sweatband protruding slightly below the rim of the straw on the sides (sorta like the liner of an old British "tommie" helmet).

The more I look at it, the more it bothers me. I can't see the leather liners in my felt hats.

Is this something you sometimes run into with panamas?

I don't know whether to just turn it into a jungle beater, or what.

Not enough experience to say whether or not it's a common thing, but I suggest contacting the vendor directly about it. Perhaps it's something that can be rectified that way.

Cheers,
Tom
