Back in '98, I sold a knicker suit nearly identical to the ones in the links below. Mine was a size 44 Long, and in mint condition; it was handmade in Austria in the '20s. The buyer paid me $250.

How times have changed! lol

It's just a very rare rare suit to have lying around. The price payed for that one is justified.

They're great suits. The good news is that similar ones are still being made in Britain; they're called "shooting suits", and you can find them occasionally (and more cheaply) on www.ebay.co.uk

I do think you are on to something. In the past year I think I have noticed a rise in the prices being paid for good vintage suits. Maybe its just the lounge members driving things up on ebay...

Certainly hats seem to have gone up.

everyday 30s business suits are selling very badly on eBay right now - even in larger sizes. Probably $50 will get one these days (though the listings are also reduced in number) ...

a good quality double breasted 30s suit still rarely goes over $400 and usually more like $280. i suppose these went so high because they appeal to another niche market: rich people into shooting. or maybe it was just the plus fours. but i suspect not. how many vintage freaks are crazy for plus fours ?

That sure is a good looking suit. I don't know much about the pricing of men's suits, but I would imagine that the price for this one is high. It seems to be a rarer item, and I can understand that rare goes for more but that's a lot of dollars.

For some strange reason, that line just reminded me of a quote from "Heat":
