Thank you both. I have tons of buttons and need to use them. Busy, busy with my business as it is that time of year but after holidays think I am going to start doing this with buttons and different apparel.
Would love to see others post here how buttons changed things. Like paint it makes it all look so much better.
I often change buttons on vintage, whether it's because there are some missing or broken already or they are just a plain wrong choice what is already on the garment. Sometimes I know they are not the original buttons anyway so I have no quarms about swopping them.
My friend bought a 1930s knit suit a few years ago that had buttons that looked like slugs (or something worse....) I didn't believe her until she sent me a pic. We agreed they were totally gross and she changed them to much more pleasant buttons. Now we don't know what to do with the slug buttons!
I don't have any pics, but I did a button switch on a plain black cardigan. Took off the boring new buttons and switched them for some of the little off-white pearl with the raised shank that were in my grandmother's button jar. So much nicer. I just got a haul of wool sweaters from Value Village and a few of the cardigans are destined for a button redo. One is just a plain off-white cardigan and I might go crazy with some of the really cool singles out my stash, jazz it up a little. I will do before and afters when I get around to it. The 50s party dress for New Year's Eve is first in the queue right now.
i bought some high waisted dark blue jean sailor shorts, 3 of the 6 buttons were missing and i would like to replace them with something cuter anyway. The current buttons (the ones that were left anyway) are just plain blue plastic. Similar to this but larger
any ideas on what to use? i was thinking maybe some gold buttons with embossed anchor, similar to this but again larger
but i am open to any ideas that may enhance the style.
