From Wikipedia:
Zesto was started by entrepreneur and inventor L.A.M. Phelan as a national franchise chain. Phelan was head of the Taylor Freezer Corporation, which in 1945 had developed the "Zest-O-Mat" frozen custard machine, and franchise agreements granted exclusive use of the Zest-O-Mat machines in a given territory under the Zesto name.[1] The first known Zesto Drive-In was opened in Jefferson City, Missouri by its original franchise owner, Lottie Traubtz;[2] dozens more opened in the late 1940s and early 1950s, mostly in the U.S. South and Midwest.

IRRC, PepsiCo used to own those restaurant chains that Lizzie spoke about earlier (Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, KFC, plus others) until they divested in 1997 to concentrate on dominating the junk food/snack/beverage market.

Maxwell House "classic" was my favorite instant coffee, years ago. Solid middle class, good taste, realistic price, no marketing crap, all fine. Until "Kraft" became "Mondelez", yuck.

I once drove from San Antonio to Calif. on a 63 VW to visit my sister.
This image reminded me of that trip.

I started early in the morning but by nightfall... I was still in Texas.

Stopping in El Paso, I had to customize the hanging gas pedal with a piece of board
so that I could rest my foot on the floor board otherwise I was cramping big time.

I was able to cross the desert during the night.
Arriving at the mountains as I was entering California, I learned about "vapor lock”.
Finally I arrived at Riverside...slept the next day and woke up with a
sore back the following morning.

My sister suggested we go visit Disneyland.
