Vintage leather hat......of sorts.

Whats everyone think of this old Cairns & Brothers leather fire helmet? If anyone knows anything about them,I'm trying to date it.The inside medallion is marked New York instead of New Jersey.I don't know when they moved.
This thing is one of my prized posessions.It just has unbelievable character.

Helmets like that were used until the seventies. How far back that style went is hard to say, but at least the 30's. And they changed very little over time which makes dating them difficult.

I have several from different eras. At some point I will try to post pics. But certainly the ones like these above are my favorites.

Fantastic helmet. There was a display of these at the
San Francisco airport a few years ago. A lot of good
design went into those lids.

Thanks.Every one that I look at on ebay has the Clifton New Jersey badging on the inside. I'm going to try to research it more to find out when they moved.
