Vintage Golf Bag

I just got my first vintage leather and canvas golf bag.

It's from Burton Golf (my current guess is that they were big in the 40s and 50's).

My question is, how do i clean the dirt marks on the leather? There seems to be a great debate about the use of saddle soap for cleaning dirt on leather.

I'd like to hear from friends in the lounge who had luck in cleaning old leather successfully.

I have recently used Pecard on an old Gladstone Bag and it shined right up. Whenever I have a specific leather-cleaning question, I always ask Michaelson, who seems to have some knowledge on the subject. Perhaps he'll chime in.

I use saddle soap on my whips to clean them and then put Pecards on them right after that. That's kangaroo hide. I'd imagine the golf bag leather would have simlar care standard. You could go to tack shop or western wear store and ask about leather cleaning in their saddle department.

The bag looks so dirty and beat up, i'm actually confused whether i should clean the leather or the canvas first.

Do you guys think i made a mistake buying this?
