I realize we've been over this word usage before but I'm still seeing it used in Ebay and still find is misleading. The items in question are from people that sell thiose tuti-fruiti colored hats listed as "vintage fedora." Of course when you see them you know they aren't but it ticks me off for some small reason that they can get away with it along with so many other categories of goods.

The word "vintage" is used in the search verbiage but not in the actual ad once you're there. The hats can only be classified as a fedora in the most oblique way. They look like roll up hats in circus colors probably made in China.

Oh well.

I find it more annoying than misleading. Clicking on an auction to see the item is not vintage is o.k. with me. Pulling up a search for something and getting 98% non-vintage is not o.k.!!

New Vintage?

I also find it annoying to get all of the "NEW Vintage" results when I do a search for "vintage". That is an oxymoron to me! The only way it could be new vintage would be if the old item had never been used. Items that are brand new (like those hideous pink or camouflage trucker caps) do NOT qualify!

Back to the old "what is vitage" question. A discussion so venerable it is itself vintage.

I like looking for bargains in "top hats" because some goofy sellers don't know a top hat from their own elbow or a fedora from a hole in the ozone.

Now, will I still find those bargains? :eusa_doh:

@LOOK@ Vintage hat cap top hat durby punk ska emo boggie gangsta...

"This hat is probably from the 1940s" and it has a tag with the metric size on it.

And can somebody explain who this Stacy Adams person is? I get that name if I search on Adam hats, and they invariably look like cheap modern crapola.

I wouldn't mind the faux vintage if I could just exclude every baseball cap in advance...

Is it possible to ignore specific sellers on E-bay? The Australian E-bay has half a dozen or so accounts operating out of China that list dozens and dozens of baseball caps constantly...

If everyone on the Lounge were to send an ebay message to that joker, charging him with misleading advertising (and threatening to alert ebay authorities), I bet he'd dump the word pretty quickly. It really is irritating.

100% wool hats mostly in the $30 to $40 range. They seem to market more towards the African American demographic.

when doing the search follow your search terms with -(mesh, trucker, baseball) or whatever. Anything you wish to exclude, put within the parentheses ...

Wow, great tip. I didn't realize that could be done. Thanks, Baron!
