I bought this guy because I have it's bigger brother and I love it. The "bigger brother" is one of the first online vintage jackets I bought. I will throw up a pic of both.
big brother also with purple knits
Background:
Appalachian was a major supplier of leather outerwear for Sears Roebuck going back to the late 40s. They were making jackets for Sears in the mid 60s. The same jacket could have a Sears or Appalachian label.
In my opinion the Appalachian jackets were a bit lower quality leather than other makers, but the jackets have a charm and utility that others don't. The Vertical zip map pocket jacket is an Appalachian design and make. They are very cool.
I've also owned two other App police jackets in a different style. They had a variety based on the same chassis.
I had a similar black, but it did not have side laces!
Sorry to confuse you; This is the one for sale.
I think it is stunning for many odd reasons. The leather is horsehide and very light weight, lighter than big brother. It has mismatched knits! As you can see on the brother, the purple knits are original. Why this way? 2nd?, the liked it? ran out of material? Gives the jacket a story to tell. The 50s red quilt lining stands out so nicely from the black horsehide.
I'll get to the point. the pictures tell the condition. No issues with zipper no wear through, police badge holder (probably private purchase). Never for sale if it fit me, but it never will.
Size: marked and measured. My experience is Appalachians are big for their marked size. maybe a half step larger.
Price: $150 shipped in CONUS.
