This Video contains live opening of three packages. It is dramatic and powerful and probably too long! People of all ages like to get packages, sorta like Christmas/Birthday.

The Second Video is about the Question: To Keep or Not to Keep. A glimpse in to my crazy mind. I'm curious what you think. I know cost does play a part in any decision. This jacket comes to me at, or near, the End price. Other words no upside on a re-sell. Even money to the right person, but just not much margin left. I do have several other Black Horsehide Half-belts wich are as nice and do fit better. (I'm planning a Half-Belt Round-Up). No I can not afford to keep all these jackets. They are going out all the time. I'm not wealthy, I support my habit through Catch and Release.

So taken that; what are your thoughts?

Opening Video:

To Keep or Not to Keep Video

Had to do one with outside light. Short.

I think its a good slim fit on you, kind of a retro cool vibe with the wide collar.

If you didn't already have a number of better fitting black half belts (and the exact same jacket in a bigger size lol) I'd say keep it but seeing as you do....maybe not?

First world problems ;)

Considering you have probably the largest collection on the lounge, and own far better fitting jackets i would say sell it.
It is nice, and fits you ok (a bit short in the arms and tight in the body) but isn't special or unique enough to be kept. IMO

^Agreed with what's been said above. It's definitely a cool jacket and looks to be in great shape and fits. Usually I know the answer as soon as I try it on.

As far as opening a box, to me that's always the most terrifying few moments of "Did I f#%k up the specs" can't unfold and look at the lengths fast enough and get it on my back to confirm I didn't (or did)

Keep them all and start a jacket museum. Charge $5 admission for each visitor. In time, the jackets will be paid for, you'll gain a profit, and the public will be educated! Kidding but not kidding.

if you keep on making these excellent videos and gain more and more viewers, Youtube will start paying you to keep the hobby going.

about the black jacket, it looks great from the back, sleeve a bit short, and from the video there is a huge different between front left and right panel, one side looks grainy and the other side looks new-ish, especially since you already have that style in brown with better fit & great patina on it, I'll say take a picture and release it back to the water :) but of course I don't have collector's DNA in me...

Thank you for your thoughts. I came back to this thread with more anticipation than I have with any post. I value these comments. I'm thinking. It is hanging right next to me. Has very nice look indoors. It is actually about the fit I thought it would be.

You guys really have me thinking. I'll drag out two Black Halfs to compare. One of them is sorta the Ultimate Black Half, at least to me.

That is crazy I had that Sportclad. I didn't realize it until I was doing that Video. I did that with two Monarch jackets. Got them side by side and they are the same. Guess I do know what I like.

I'll dig out a couple of others. I haven't shown them. When you see those you wonder why I even bought another.

I've had more "pleasent" surprises than negative, actually way more. I opened three today,,,and none of them are my size! A red vest sized 38! A Deerskin size 46, and a 40 Horsehide! I told the seller I had to try it on. They have a return policy, so I'm trying it on in public.

I sell to keep what I can. Really having fun with it all. I'm retired so time is on by side.

Yes, very distinctive on this jacket, seen on others. I have thought it had to do with left right handed? You know more movement. or just plain hide difference. The sleeves are pretty stiff on this one. Actually in hand it is really quite nice. This jacket is at least 60 years old. DNA, yes. When you see the others it helps understand this is the style of jacket I prize over all others. Yes there is older stuff, but I'm about what I like. That Brown one is nice and a better fit.,not as good condition Wise. This one is very clean on my scale.

Here is a curious question or two.

What would you value a jacket like this? or more..what do you think it sold for?

Those are two different questions.

It was an ebay sale so you can peek. Well it doesn't say what I paid, just best offer accepted. They use to list the price it sold for. I'll tell.

Total uneducated guess:
Valued at $350-4 and sold for $2-250

Complete Nick BS but it's fun to attempt to look intelligent. :)

No BS I smell. Nice guess, close but not quite.

OK Nick, I was going to ask you this question when we exchanged some messages or anyone else with this experience.

How often does a jacket like this show up in vintage shops? and what price? how often? The shop you told me about, what would their price be?

I'm asking because I can only guess. I visited a few shops in KC where my son lives. I'm really curious.

May be I'm in a bidding war with me?

This one boutique shop around these parts has some nice leathers. Totally a guess, but I'd imagine they'd put it between 3-400. The owner of that one is super knowledagable. Moreso than I! They have a good collection of horsehide. Less name brands than we see here.

The other shop I frequent has less rare jackets but they're priced friendlier. More steer and post-50s jackets. But that shop is asking crazy money for some of the rarer ones.

I haven't seen that model there to my memory. The first store has older stuff while the second is more post-50s. I think I spotted a Sears half belt but more Lewis copies and things like that. I'll have to go back to refresh my memory. Nice people at both. I shot an email to one of the owners last night with my entire jacket collection for sale, but good news! Family crisis has been settled so no need to unload. However, I put that G-1 on consignment at another store in town. Thing was too short.
