With the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting being held in Honolulu this week, the heads of state from Russia, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the United States will be in attendance during this Veteran's Day weekend. The Prime Minister of Australia will give an address at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, aka Punchbowl Cemetery, marking the significance of the United States and Australia's close ties and shared sacrifices during WWII on Nov. 11.
A special service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12, in commemoration of those lost during WWII with expected attendance by the countries representing the Allied Powers. President Obama's grandfather, Stanley Armour Dunham, is buried at Punchbowl Cemetery and served in Europe during WWII with the 9th Air Force. The President makes it a point to visit his grandfather's grave when ever he is in Hawaii.
