VERY RARE Leila Hyams short

Through a newfound friend (book author), I got a tip about a small video store in North Hollywood that has RARE stuff. I went there yesterday and almost fainted. I quickly made friends with the owner needless to say. Anyway, I got 2 Leila films that I needed, 1935's People Will Talk and 1943's First Aid. Leila's last film was 1936 as some of you might remember. However, First Aid was a specialty short that she did for MGM. It's really her last official appearance on film. I've uploaded the 10-minute short to the Leila website for any of you who'd be interested in watching it. It was a semi-humorous look at ways to prevent mishaps that occur around the house.

Please excuse the slight curve at the top of the picture. Again, this short is VERY rare and I'm just happy to have it.

Leila's appearances:

At 1:57 when the aid workers come into the room, Leila is in the middle and the first one to walk out of the group towards the rest of the room.

At 6:08 she comes and kneels down next to a victim and she's named by name at that point.

Thnaks for sharing the video. I haven't seen that short for years. I always enjoyed the Pete Smith Specialities. I remember it showing Dave O'Brien's toupee coming off.

Sincerely,

I really enjoyed that short. I am wondering if you know where I can find old army films or civil defense films?

Hi DrJones,

My buddy Donovan at Eddie Brandt's Saturday Matinee here in North Hollywood might have them, or know where to get them. He has a network of people throughout the country, all film fanatics! Do you have specific titles?

You can always call the store at: 818-506-4242, ask for Donovan

Store hours: Tues-Fri: 1pm to 6pm, Sat: 8:30am - 5pm

The Prelinger archives has a lot of its films here. He collects ephemeral films (the "unclassifiable" stuff, pretty much!) There are some great training films (both army and school) in the collection.
