They only have 8oz in stock @ £18 a hit. As it happens I am sending 634s in for a free maintenance stitch in time so may ask them to add a couple on the back of the return P&P.

The Oxford I have spec’d with TB has some minor changes. Still waiting for confirmation but it goes like this:

*comp weight, black
*move chest pocket from left to right side
*chest pocket slanted Enfield style
*red plaid lining
*double ended zip
*brass hardware
*remove centre seam on back panel
*two inside pockets, one horizontal left side, one vertical right side

Haven’t got a delivery yet but I’m expecting this fall sometime

The center seam helps to reduce the back bulge as the leather has no where to go and can puff up when you straighten your back, this is especially true if you ride often and the back is molded to that rounded shape, so when you straighten up the back will pop out and look like a bad bulge.

I don't like the center seam too but some have said on many expensive jackets there is a center seam and it's likely to there to keep it looking neat.

I’ve never heard that before and it would be interesting to hear from Enfield owners that ride, if this indeed is the case. Lots of MC jackets have one piece backs, some consider it a safety feature. My Vanson Raid is a one piece back for example. I added it for two reasons, to smooth out the back from an aesthetic point of view, and to increase structural integrity for what that’s worth.
My road glide has a back rest anyway so it won’t puff out leaning against that.

Further to this subject I just recalled I asked Carrie at TB if the one piece will affect the way the Oxford contours to the back and she said no it wouldn’t.

42”. I need a 42” in the B family of jackets. The 40’s and 44’s I can wear but the 42” seems to be the best fit.
40” 9d T shirt fit only, especially with the quilted liner

42” Model F. Rayon liner

So the only natural conclusion is I need to buy a 42” 9D. It took me too long to figure this out. Not sure why.

Yeah, I'd find the centre seam a lot more aesthetically pleasing of topped off with a nice yoke. It'll definitely sell out , even if only for the fact that it's two big brands that both have a following, and with a market as big as Schott's surely they must have fifty people will want one.... The design isn't bad, though for me it's longer in the body than I care for in a jacket like that. I'm indifferent to Shinki, so that doesn't have an especial pull for me. Still, it's interesting to see such a mass-market brand dabbling in this sort of limited edition and niche branding.

That would make sense. Aero mention this on their website wrt the Board Racer model - they will make it without the centre seam on request, but point out that this will affect the fit. My understanding is that the way the two panels are cut can better allow for the fit against the curve of the back than a single piece. From that perspective, it is perhaps interesting that I see the centre seam much more on high-end motorcycle jackets as opposed to high end "fashion" pieces (for want of a better way of putting it - leather jackets worn for style rather than as motorcycle wear).

looks good from the front, perhaps can use more splay below the zipper box for a longer jacket like that for sitting, as from the back I think since it has center seam it should look a lot neater toward the lower back, it should taper more

I have a custom one with the center seam. It makes the jacket fit nicer, better contouring. Without it there could be unwanted horizontal creases or rolls especially on heavier leather. But yeah J100 is classic design with the plain back. Tough call.

Thanks for this. I read the entire thread that began with the poll. Carrie told me the back piece isn’t cut on a curve so I’m hopeful I don’t have a problem wrt to bunching or bowing. As I said earlier, the Enfield has the one piece, and so does the Schott 689, an almost identical pattern.
I like the centre seam on my Oxford but wanted my next to have a one piece panel. I did think about spec’ing a yoke but the changes start to add up and then there is the risk of moving too far away from the original Vanson pattern.
I’ll know in a few months!

From my understanding and this is from a guy who only has 1 jacket lol, the seam seems to help, pun intended.

It'll allow the leather to fold inwards to the spine according to the natural contours of the back. When I stretch back to yawn, I can feel the center of the jacket folding to the back of my spine, I would think that if the back was 1 piece, this action will cause it to bulge outward as the leather has nowhere else to go.

I guess if the jacket has been seasoned and has molded to your back this wouldn't be a problem but for newish jackets, quite a few of the members here have experienced the back bulge from the photos posted.

I'm actually hoping that your 1 piece experiment works cos I am really looking to get a vanson myself and would prefer a 1 piece back too

Fingers crossed that it fits.
Owner said he has maintained it with the recommended Vanson leather balm, but the impression I got on TFL is that it's really not necessary to treat leather jacket in any way in the first 10+ years of it's life.
Any comments on this aspect? Should I put the leather balm included with the jacket in dark place for the next 10 years?

Regarding the leather, ten years is probably about right until it needs another treatment. I used to treat my jackets with Pecards once a year but that was just me being a noobie. I don’t think it hurt them at all, but it certainly wasn’t necessary.
