USAAF 78th Fighter Group out of Hamilton Field - Stationed in Duxford, UK 42-45

I'm no expert on anything in this area, but I was looking through some threads here this morning and thought some of you might appreciate this online photo album, with photos provided by the veteran's group of the 78th FG, which flew out of Hamilton Field in California.

I used to live at Hamilton Field - right near the hangars (that's where my "handle" came from) and I subscribed to this groupback then. There are a lot of great photos of the base, but this particular album is really great, and seem to be mainly from Duxford, so it's worth checking out.

There are both B&W and Color - a visit from the King and Queen, some Aces, some action shots, and even a couple of girls :)

Here are a few snaps to get you going - I don't think you have to sign up to see them:

Thanks! Being an Airman myself, I always appreciate the chance to see the history of out military, especialy the Air Force. Sad to think that manny people believe color film didn't exist back then. Did you catch WWII in HD on the History Channel a few weeks back? Brilliant!

Thunderbolt - thank you for your service!

I did not see the History Channel program as I don't currently have television service. I don't miss it most of the time, but of course that would be something I'd enjoy seeing.

I'm glad this was of use to you!

Here where I live we had 2 airfields nearby used during the war. One is a Jr. College now which used to be Santa Ana Airfield. The other is Mile Square Park which I believe is still owned by the Navy. This Park still has the Air Strip. This Air Strip was used by RC Airplane buffs before they were (ironically) kicked out. There are a few others also nearby El Toro and the famous Blimp Hangers at Tustin. All being threatened by re-devolpment.
