Hello ladies! I need some advice and right away. I'm going to a party tomorrow (Sunday) and I'm wearing an Edwardian outfit (which is simply stunning), like the clothes worn in the Anne of Green Gables movie (second one that is). Anyhow I need advice on how to put my hair up in the style of the movie. I can't seem to post pictures, so if you could go to anneofgreengables.com and enter the photo gallery for The Sequel and look at Anne's hairstyle(the straight one, not the curly one) and tell me how to accomplish it. I need advice as soon as possible so I can try it out tonight. Oh, by the way my hair is almost shoulder length, medium to thick in density, and relatively straight. All your help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.
Sarah

Edit: I was able to put the picture up as my avatar. The picture is the way I would like to do my hair.

When I used to do victorian dress up, I would first rat my hair all over, then stand up and lean over from the waist and using a brush and both hands, lightly brush all the hair towards what would be the top of my head if I wasn't bent over. You want to very loosely gather all the hair together and put a rubber band around it. Then stand up straight again. You should have that full round look you want. Take the loose ends sticking out of the top and wrap them around the rubber band part but not too tightly and use about 800 hairpins to create the topknot. Then using more hairpins, stick all the loose ends you missed into the bun on top. You might have to redo it a couple of times before you get the hang of it. Then hairspray and take lots of hairpins with you for repairs. I have curly hair so although I had to contend with alot of frizz, the bun on top never came out. But if it's any consolation, real victorian women had hairpins falling out and hairdos coming down all the time. They did not look perfect like the women in the movies. Hope this helps.

I've done that technique as well....although I would let my hair get as dirty as possible and brush some baby powder into it to get it to stay.
