re large a-2

Yeah , probably requisitioned, but the did make them that large and larger-- up to a size 52
I have seen two that belonged to the same officer in a size 52 , Both no name contracts in MINT condition.
I don't think he was doing much combat flying.

This one brought over $1600. Good condition, very large size (50). Probably "requisitioned" by an officer who certainly wasn't flying any planes. I thought it would go higher.

Yes, they tend to be in very good condition as the previous owners probably didn't do too much flying. If they did it was to shuttle them from one desk to another. I imagine they bring a good amount only if there is someone looking for that size (wouldn't do any good for someone like me) but if you get a few good size guys together bidding on it then it possibly could go through the roof. The Japanese collectors don't buy them because they don't interest them, they stick in the 36-40 or so range, but then again they are rare. I have seen the hit 3K before so this price was quite low. It's all supply and demand and they are only worth what someone is willing to pay.

I have this theory that militaria fanatics as a group are actually larger than the typical male population - due perhaps to a fondness for other stereotypically masculine pastimes such as contact sports, overeating and beer. ;)

This RW A2 sold for a very reasonable price. I expected more considering its size and condition. Perhaps it was sold to fund the new ELC Werber!

I'd love to find one that big, but the better solution by far (for me, anyway) would be to buckle down and lose around 100 pounds. I still wouldn't look like a fighter jock, but it sure would be a better look. ;)

So is this your resolution for 2007?

Well, ya see, if I hit the lottery I'm buying a Supermarine Spitfire. I'll need flight training in something like a North American AT-6, and then I'll need to slim down so I can fit in the Spitfire cockpit.

That's the plan. First, though, I need to buy a ticket. lol
