Union tag info needed...

This is from an item on that auction site...no picture of the tag, but from the seller:

"issued by authority of amalgamated clothing. Union made. SXI 88037
There is a logo of an old sewing machine. The other tag reads 'first nighter.' Handwritten on it is 'Mr N Brown 3/76'"

What little I can dig up (and without a picture) dates the garment 1976, although from what I can tell from other details(given the nature and appearance of the item), this is unlikely. Anyone have any further information to offer on this?

Hello!

If I'm not mistaken, that particular union label was used up until the 70s. The union label code is still one that us vintage dealers are trying to crack. Do you have a picture of the suit? That would help greatly.

If its already dated 3/76, what more do you need to know? The Mr N Brown 3/76 was the store / tailors ID of the buyer and date.

The ACWA tag was used from 1949 until 1976 when they merged with another union to form ACTWU. The number on the tag dates it into the 70's.

What is it about the garment that makes you think it is not 70's? There was a lot of retro stuff going on and some of it was quite like the original.
