Heya guys and gals :)

Just thought I'd share a few pics of my most recent acquisition, found in an antiques centre in sunny Chesham, in Buckinghamshire:

From what I've gathered from a friend, these caps were only really seen in the post-war pre-USAAF days, which isn't so good for me considering my interest in WW2, but it's a lovely piece in its' own right and I adore it :)

Welcome to the the Lounge! I owned one of those caps back when I was interested in military headgear, USAAF especially, and I found it truly an strange bird of a hat, and very little information about them. They seem frankly impractical, and look like kid's winter caps. I couldn't find any photographic examples of them being worn. I wonder if anyone could find any.

Does anyone have ANY info on them?

The most I got was a single reply from a Belgian chap, who said they may have been for ground crew. I know the D-1 sheepskin jacket was a ground crew item but this blue cap, I have no idea.
Rumour has it it was an experimental thing, post WWII, but abandoned on the formation of the USAF, but I can't really see why....

All info gratefully recieved. :)

All the best,
Paul
