Well helllo fellas i have a question for you and a criqute. I have to say i just returned from a weding trip to good ole vegas. My best friend of roughly 20 years was getting married. So i decided to treat him to a hot shave and a cut at trufit and hill. He was a newbie to the experience And i happen to feel nothing makes a man feel like a man than a shave. i must say i have been luckily privlaged to experience one on a regular basis every time i get a hair cut by my local barber shop. Wich i must say if any of you fellas are in detroit on bisusness or pleasure contact me for details. It is a lovely shop in old polish part of detroit where you can regulary get a cut and full shave for 15$ (bask to topic at hand) So i must i was astounded being a man that shaves with a straight razor himsyelf and regulary get's a shave. Knowing what is like to be shaved by a true artist of the trade. The extreme lack of talent and skill of a company that prides it syelf on that and being of old world class and skill. On top of using a razor with stainless replacement blades wich i guess i could understand for health concerns. The barber was afraid to even get remotly close to my beard line. And left plenty of spots of stubble. Not to top the barber left my buddys neck looking like he was clawed by a cat. ( not reasuring to someone who has never had a straight shave before) I was wondering if anyone has had a same experience and would strongly advise against someone who is about to do the same mistake i did. ESPICALLY walking out of there at a little over 600$ tab for shine shave and cut:rage: :rage: . The olny thing that stoped me from complaining was ruinung my best friends wedding day.

Sheared in Vegas.

That's what gives other barbershops a bad name. That's a real bummer. Way out of order. I tried to get Trufitt and Hill product in my store, and I have to say I was shot down rather hard. They have a very good product. But so does George Trumper and The art of Shaving. That shop you attended may also be a solely owned seperate of Trufitt and Hill. I would like to talk to later about your Detroit connection.

It's nice to see another Detroit area guy on the forum! I'm assuming you're either from Hamtramck, or Poletown off of Michigan Avenue? My Dad's mother's side of the family is Polish, and that's where most of the family was located, prior to the riots. I've still got a couple relatives hanging in there though. My great grandfather, who immigrated from Poland, worked at the Desoto Plant on Jefferson, as an upholsterer.

I'd certainly like to hear more about this barber myself. My current barber does a good job on the haircut (considering what I give him to work with) but charges $17.00, and doesn't offer a hot towel shave. Never having had a hot towel shave before, and so far being unable to locate any other area barbers who perform this traditional service, I am most interested!

Barbar shaving seems to be a bit of a lost art. In Las vegas the Art of Shaving has a barbar that does straight razor (feather razor shaves) and their shaving items are top notch. It is located in the inter casino shopping mall near the Luxor.

People's facial skin reacts differently to a shave, but the barbar should be slow, deliberate and precise. Also if there are areas that are difficult he should finish with a twin blade for protection.

I would highly suggest contacting Trufit & Hill and speak to a manager. I have read of a similar instance on a shaving forum and as I recall that the unpleasant situation was taken care of to the complete satisfaction of the customer.

Thank you mk and ill do my best to fill in what would you like to know? Historic detroit- actually the barber is near new mexicantown he is roughly 60 years old and had a shop in delray( before it became a demill zone) for over 30 years before moving to this location. Catering to all of the romainain/ hungarian orthodox population that was arround here. You just have to catch him on a day when he is not bussy to get the full treatment otherwise you will get either just a hot lather shave. If he is to bussy you will have to settle for some of the younger barbers he has working for him wich are still good in skill just lack the same ora thae surrounds the true experience. They also tend to use disposable straight blades and shave with with none other than hair gell:rolleyes:  its unique to say the least. None the less not bad for 15 bucks:) :)
