Toys McCoys Surveyor Boots

Looking for a new pair of boots and got these to try on. Now trying to decide if I’m going to keep them or not. I have to say that I love the way they look! Just not sure about fit and comfort. I can tell that the leather will be tough to break in but that’s OK. And the heel is taller than I normally like. Anyone know how easy it would be to have one of the lifts removed, while still retaining the cats paw?

I’ve wondered about that, but I don’t think it would make that much difference. And in any case I like a good sprung toe!

These feel pretty close to true to size to me. I wear a 9.5E in whites, and these 10Es are just a little big.

Thanks. They look really similar if not exact to a Lone Wolf Mechanic's boot (but without the brass rivets) which is why I ask and those fit about 1/2 size down.

Very sharp. Agree with earlier post. I wouldn’t start messing with them by taking out the lift. If you “customize” them by taking out the lift and they are still not to your liking then you’ve really depreciated the resale value. I’m guessing they were pricey. Sounds like the seed of doubt may be too far planted.

Most comfortable boots out of the box I’ve ever owned. $250 cheaper.

I’ve got the mccoys surveyor. They are great boots and mine are super comfortable. I wear them a lot. BUT one of the welts failed completely after about 2.5 years meaning an entire rewelt and resole had to be done which mccoys said since the boots were more than 2 years old they would not do for free.

Boots look very good. As I said before, the heel is already a little low for my taste so lowering them more would make the balance worse.

I wouldn't lower them, I have a pair of Wesco Packers with a lowered heel, they feel like I'm walking up hill most of the time.

Both LW and Toys are quite wide. I wear the same size in both. The profile however are not that similar. LW is munson toe. Toys is narrower and sleeker. Toys has a "toelift" while LW is flat.

The heel doesn’t look particularly high to me, I wouldn’t touch it. If you want to do that then I’ll consider a full resole by a specialist so that the overall balance is preserved.

Appreciate the feedback. (And apologies for the repetition for those who've seen these on another board.) As far as the heel goes, I know lots of folks like their boot heels taller than me, but all I can say is I've worn a lot of boots over the past 35 years or so and discovered early on that 1" to 1.25" feel good to me and anything taller doesn't. I feel like I'm walking downhill with taller heels. Aesthetically, I am quite sure that they would not look bad to me -- my White's and Chippewas both have 1" heels and they look great -- assuming the work was not botched, which is why I was wondering about the feasibility of removing a lift. Anyway, still undecided on keeping them or not...

Yeah, I hear you. The perennial question for those of us on the board, and one we try not to think about too much... These are less than Vibergs or Wescos, and only slightly more than White's. Up until about 10 years ago I had never spent more than $65 for a pair of boots. Then at one point I had decided I could spend $300, and once it hit that level, well, all of the sudden it's like a gateway drug. I finally decided that one pair of expensive boots equals about five of my spouse's trips to Target, and when I looked at it that way it seemed like a bargain!

With most purchases once you break that seal it’s off to the races.
First $300 boots, then $600, oh what the heck $1,000 and so on. I lost an evening for sure considering Clinch and still haven’t completely talked myself out of it. Those are waaay out of my financials.

The good thing is that when you reach the top sometimes you’ll then start going back down. This is to say that Clinch are really nice but then who cares if the boot has been handwelted or not?! That alone likely adds $300/$400 to the already hefty price with 0 benefit either from a structural or aesthetic point of view.
