Top 5 purchases of 2022

As the the title says: what's your top 5 purchases of 2022 and why?

Looking back at 2022 it turned out to be pretty hard to name the top 5 since I actually bought quite a lot of jackets this year. Yeah, I know I said to @Marc mndt in June that I was happy with my collection and wasn't looking for anything else, only to buy a jacket 3 hours later. After looking at all his jackets and then seeing @mendelboaz collection I realised there were still quite a few jackets that I really wanted to have. There are a couple that I got this year that didn't make it into the top 5 that I still think are solid purchases that are here to stay. But these 5 are my top picks:

1. Custom Thedi. I ordered this early this year to celebrate that I got out of a shitty dead end job that I hated. I often do custom orders as gifts to myself for accomplishing certain things, like getting a promotion or finding a better job or whatever. Things that I've worked to achieve where I don't always enjoy the process all that much but I do enjoy the result. And to motivate me more I decide that once I've succeeded I'll be allowed to do a custom order.
Anyways, this jacket turned out to be one of my favourite jackets ever and the only jacket I've ever had that strangers stop to compliment me on.

2. CHP straight zip. I've wanted one of these for many years. I've had several close calls but then early this year this one showed up, and in the EU at that so no customs bullshit either. Looking at the measurements this was a bit of a gamble, but it turned out to be a really good fit.

3. Vanson C2. After trying out Mendels Vanson jackets this summer in Leiden I started obsessively searching for a C2 and finally found this one on buyee.jp - it seemed like a good fit and a CW leather so I got it. And I was not disappointed. This is the perfect moto cross zip, no need for me to even look at any other.

4. Swedish Army winter coat. This is another one that I'm really happy with. I bought it in July. How crazy is it to buy winter jackets in the middle of summer? But this really came to good use when we got -10 C - it kept me warm with just a cotton sweater. I have no doubt this would be comfortable with a wool sweater even in -25 C. And the pockets are so big I can even fit my laptop in them :)

5. Vintage Swedish cross zip. My last purchase in 2022 that came in just before Christmas. These don't show up that often and are pretty unique so I was really happy when I came across one in my size and for a reasonable price. And I love the goat leather on these old Swedish jackets. Super nice grain and good drape.

What are your top purchases this year?

Happy New Years and hope next year you will find your way to an ever better collection of outerwear :)

That Cal is something else. Very few of those exits. Good for you. The jacket looks good on you.

Cal six pannel. First production. Second one added to my collection. Does not fit, but my daughter loves it.

Californian for me. Sadly, did not have enough cash on hand to also purchase the 60's Cal leather's straight zip the seller had on hand. Cash is king with her. Came back and she sold it.

I'm afraid to go back and document what I bought in the past 365 days. I think I'd end up checking myself into an addiction help center LOL. I haven't taken photos of everything yet so maybe I'll update this later, but what comes to mind in no particular order:

A weird thing happened in like the span of 3 months where literally everything on my wish list popped up at decent prices. I couldn't contain myself and probably still need to do some trimming of a few things. But we've all heard this before, I think I'm pretty much done LOL. Really have every box checked off at this point (not just in jackets, but also went on this crazy Iron Heart journey with flannels, denim shirts, jeans, etc). Other than just really going nuts and going to the next level with Freewheelers or something like that, I am thoroughly satisfied.

It's been an extended winter this year in Los Angeles. I started breaking out jackets late September and have been getting a ton of wears on just everything. Feels good to start getting those costs per wear down : ) Mentally I've moved on to more wearing and less looking, but I admit, I can't help but check classified more than a few times each day. Part of it is just to see what's out there, how much, and who's buying what. I still have a tiny car coat itch happening LOL.

Happy New Year every one!!!!!!

Great buys, it’s a pity about that Cal straightzip, it seems to be in perfect condition, it even has the pocket zips!

I wasn't sure at first if I would even get to 5 purchases, but in fact it was just about 5 jackets (and many other things, but that's not what this is about).

That I recall, I only bought and kept one leather jacket this year- Vanson Perforated Force. Only bought it because I sold mine and it was insta-regret. I’m kinda proud of myself. Of course, I bought a few leather vests and wool jackets but those don’t count.

I think I only made 8 purchases this year.

#1 and #2 definitely have to be the pioneer wear suede I just bought this month.
I don't really have a lot to say except that I really love them.
The jacket is just plain bitchin' and the vest which is also cool fits me very well.

#3 would be the USGI OG-108 field shirt, just affordable versatile and practical.
20221117_105527.jpg

#4 is this W.H Shaffer co wool vest, I took a gamble on it at a great price and it turned out to be excellent quality with 2 layers of a thick sturdy dense wool.
More of a roomy workwear fit but a great piece.
Who knew a cattle breeding/ auction company could make a really good wool vest ?

#5 would be this 1980's Wranglers jacket that I haven't actually worn a ton yet ( it's a spring jacket).
It had a lot of stray threads hanging off ,but I just snipped them all off and added some pins to tell the give it a bit of a personality based on it's flaws.

Why don't they count ?

I like leather jackets, but do love wool more.
Vests also go great under a jacket, and wearing a leather vest under a wool jacket or vise versa gives you a little of both.

Did the photo of the Californian disappear? Those are some really sweet jackets! I’ve been wanting a campus ever since I saw an Arcadia on GW sales page maybe 5 years ago.

You slowed down in 2022 right? It feels like you got a new Fivestar a month in 2021? Awesome jackets all of them!
