Thank you Sloan and WDW. BTW, that liner looks excellent in your pic, Sloan!

If Weathered Grant is warm enough for Scotland, it's gotta be ok for Jersey.

Wow, posting is only a day old, but already three pages old - it took me that long to remember how to post photos !!

I agree that with the Aero browns, any of the red based tartans look great. If, like me, you're not affiliated to any particular clan, the options are practically endless. Enjoy your new jacket. Here are a couple of mine:

T-Ray,
Thanks for the pics. You've really validated my choice. :)
No, I hail from no clan. But the red/green/brown combo really works to my eyes.

Those jackets look well broken-in. How soft does the FQHH get? Which models do you have?

Reeks1, i don't want to 'jack the Insurrection thread too much. Coat on the left is [art of the their "Ace Cafe" collection, basically a fifties half-belt. The other one's a Cheyenne. I really like the Cheyenne, but most prefer the shorter jackets. They're still pretty stiff compared to my steer hide jackets, and I like that !

My Vanson Chopper (size Medium) I ordered from Insurrection Apparel arrived yesterday, along with the Knox Venture armored shirt (size Large) to wear underneath. I spoke with Wade during the ordering process - nice, friendly, long conversation going through size, styles, comparisons with other brands & styles, etc.

I must say I'm quite blown away with both items. Firstly, the Knox armored shirt is really nice, much better than my Bohn armored shirt - the armored pads are softer & don't dig in like the Bohn armor. Fits very well and feels nice & comfortable. Very happy with it.

As for the Vanson Chopper - first impression was boy! this thing is thick, stiff & heavy. I thought my Lost Worlds Buco Rider was thick & heavy, this one seems to be thicker & heavier - probably because of the padded sections & added hardware. I was looking for a leather jacket that I could layer underneath for winter riding, but this one fit me pretty close, felt very stiff, could just layer a thin fleece underneath or perhaps a slim down-jacket - can do thicker layers but end up looking too stuffed. The Knox shirt fits well underneath but things felt even more stiff - C3PO right here! Felt somewhat overwhelmed with it, a bit of second thinking. Called Wade this morning, spoke with him at length about break-in, sizing, etc. and feeling reassured, came back home to try on the jacket again. This time felt much better with it, the jacket looked better on me & am mighty pleased with it. Breaking in process has begun :)

Took some bad-quality selfie pics with my camera phone - late night, indoors, bad lighting & reflecting off an old mirror. Intend to do better soon, in the meantime I hope you guys don't mind me sharing these here - jacket unzipped, zipped with open collar, zipped with fully closed collar and zipped with Knox armor shirt underneath.

Great purchase! I'm about to order the chopper, love at first sight(12 myths ago).. It's a snug style, which can be a bit intimidating....would you recommend ordering up a size for this particular jacket? Does yours have the red satin or quilted lining? Great great jacket, looks good mate.

2wheel: That Vanson will initially be stiff and hard to wear, but will break in with time. Eventually it will actually become more soft than stiff and will grain out very nicely. Good choice for a MC jacket.

Now that's how a motorcycle jacket needs to fit! If you get some good photos of you on your bike, could you email them to us for our website? Again, perfect fit...the Vanson Chopper is one of our favorite jackets!!!

Carrie what size chopper do you recommend for a 47.5" chest? I've re read our earlier discussion on b model sizing, the vanson site says XL is the go up to size 50? Is this accurate in your opinion?ive gone off vanson size guide before and it didn't appear correct, I think a few diff jackets obviously have diff cuts...thanks,
Ben

Thanks guys! Very happy with it so far, haven't gone riding yet, too many long hours at work, looking forward to take it out soon.

Bunyip, I'm 5'10" height, around 178-180 lbs weight, and this jacket is size Medium. It's the one with plain black lining. I was initially looking for a red quilted lining but this is plenty thick for me right now :)

Peacoat - met someone wearing a Vanson Chopper last weekend at a swap meet, said he'd had it for 2 years, looked more pliable than this one & so good. Besides this and my fairly new Lost Worlds, my other bike jackets have been lighter & softer - Schott 141, vintage beat-up Schott 118, etc. - these heavyweights are at a whole 'nother level, so happy with them. But next jacket might have to be in brown or some other color :D

Carrie, I'll be sure to send you guys pics when I get around to taking nicer ones than the above . Will be back in a few months to talk Thedi & Aero perhaps. Very happy and thank you very much! :eusa_clap

Hi Ben,

For this chest size, you'd be an XL in the Vanson Chopper. The XL Chopper is very close in size to a 48 Vanson CHP. We have one XL Chopper left in stock, and it has a red quilted liner!

Ok. So now what?

My order has been placed. I am on bated breath.

Now I'm just supposed to sit here and WAIT for 4-6 weeks!? The outrage.....

Any chance they'll make my jacket BEFORE Xmas? Would be a nice present.

As a serious aside, how do things work logistically from here on out? I assume Thurston Bros. sends all the "December production" orders at once, then Aero starts making jackets?

Does Aero ship the jacket to me directly, or first to Thurston Bros., who then send it to me?

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate it!

4-6 weeks??? If only. If you lived literally round the corner from Chateau Aero it would be 4-6 months. Good luck anyway. I'm sure you'll love it.

The jacket goes direct to Thurston, Carrie then takes a couple of pictures so we all can see it and drool, then they ship it to you
