I thought it would be fun to showcase only those thrilling, cost-next-to-nothing hats in their own thread. Bartender, feel free to move this to the 'new hats' or 'what hat are you wearing today' section if you disagree . . .

This Fein-Kaller came replete with with 3 dead spiders, many webs, and was in bad need of a woolite bath, but it cost me a whopping two dollars. The felt is extremely dense and lightweight, and when i steamed it a bit to get rid of some lumpy areas it responded very well. Anyone hazard a guess as to the vintage?

My photo is rather poor, as usual, (the hat has no discoloration). It has a double bow towards the back, an extremely thin brim-binding, and a 2 1/4 inch brim. The sweatband is 2 inches wide, and it has no liner, just an adhered oval logo patch covered in a gauzy material.

Please post photos of the inside. The sweat and any label in the crown provide more info than anything else.

Not bad for a spider hat.

Ok, aside from knowing that it's handmade (arbeit=work), I've got nothing, though I dig the crown liner.

While in Jonesboro visiting our kids. My wife and I like to browse a few flea markets.
I never see a hat so imagine my surprise when I spied a Knox hat box.
It was in a booth that always has plenty of vintage Ladies hats.

I had a even bigger surprise when I opened the box and this was in it.

It was a cool old Portis Derby, for only $ 20. But as is my luck it was way to small.

But it was neat finding it....

I just posted yesterday's thrift shop find in the "new Hats" thread - a 1970s Stetson 5X with a tall crown/RCA crease for $15. I turned it into a Double-Teardrop ala Roy Rogers for my son last night (more pics in the New Hats thread).

After punching out the crease and peeling off the ugly glued-on suede hatband:
