Thoughts on jacket collar "stays"/tabs? (Aka AKA Route 66)

I have a few jackets featuring collar latches but have only actually latched the collar on one particular jacket, a Filson "Guide" jacket, I believe. This jacket is used for bird hunting and in nasty weather the collar will turn-up high enough to cover most of my ears. The latch keeps this Dracula look-alike feature fastened around my head.
I did play with the straps on my B-3 once or twice but have never needed to secure the 30lb collar.

lol! Well yeah, but this is a whole different matter. I can imagine why pilots must've loved these jackets...
