Well, having whined a bit here a couple weeks ago about thee things never coming around in my size. I was wandering around Soho with H. Johnson on Thursday afternoon, and I found 2 of them for pennies.

So, if you have any of these originals, i'd love to see pics of them. Here are mine.

Nobody wore them with collared shirts, ties or braces. They were meant to be casual sports shirts and were worn tucked in or untucked, generally with gab trousers of some sort, but chinos apparently were not out of the question.

I've been collecting 40s/50s cable-knits for many years...the problem is very few, if any, fit a 220-pound man. The picture-print ones are very desirable, and can often fetch $200+. Here are a couple of atomic-print ones that I sold a few years back:

This one is amazing on an epic scale. It's like you would be wearing a batman 'POW!' on your torso.

Great examples. I see the picture ones come round on eBay all the time, but they're usually too big for me.

Re: sizing, they seem to be one of those things that would be quite unforgiving to certain body shapes. With the cut, and the often wild patterns, I can't see them being very flattering to a more portly physique, for example.

Contrast to this picture. I think it's reasonable to say, from other pictures, that this chap has a very large upper body musculature.I saw a thing the other day saying that verticals actually widen the body, and this seems to be the effect on the waist area in this pic. This shirt seems to mellow that extreme chest-waist ratio. An interesting, and not totally expected effect.

Not clammy, no. I wore the yellow one undershirt-less all day the other day and there was no clamminess issue. The problem was that the seams were quite irritating to my skin, so I think I'm going to end up having to go with an undershirt for these.
