Some of you have probably known this article for a long time (some of the photos and descriptions were actually pulled from The London Lounge and The Fedora Lounge). I just came across this again and decided to repost it for the benefit of our new members.

Dang! The part I obviously missed about this article: the whole thing had originally been posted back in 2008 on The Houndstooth Kid, the blog of the Lounge's very own thunderw21... :eusa_doh:

It's presented here as a 4-part series about Him. Again. The Duke...

This DoW suit was a favorite of the long gone Marc Chevalier.

I'd like to point out that the original thread here at the FL that inspired that Houndstooth Kid post along with the photos and descriptions were originally posted here by Baron Kurtz, though it looks like that thread is now gone.

Thanks for clarifying that. I didn't even read your post firts, let alone that of Baron Kurtz. I just came across that four-part series on Black Watch some time ago and thought it would be nice to post them here. That's when I found out about your blog-entry. So then the thanks goes out to you and Baron Kurtz. The web can sometimes be very confusing...

This all makes sense now. Having seen the photos of Will in his fantastic vintage double breasted suits, I now understand the look. Bravo, Will!

I, myself, was inspired by that blog, so much so that I actually had a shawl collar double breasted fine cord dinner jacket made for me. I settled for black instead of the green that the DoW wore. Nevertheless, it was a tremendous hit on New Years Eve. Of course, I could not look as good as the DoW or Thunderwill, but it was inspiring, nonetheless. Great work Will, and whomever you give credit to.

Yes, it is astonishing how things 'spread" (are plagiarised) though the internet. This piece has now, of course, been put into print for The Chap, under the joint authorship of Will and I. Interesting, I thought, that whenever this piece has been "borrowed", many of my asides are retained. What's the point of blogging if there's nothing original in the post?

Oh well, I guess if it all allows more people to access the al-Fayed catalogues of Edward VIII's menswear it should be heralded as a good thing …
