Just the other day my parents had some friends over. I stopped by quickly to grab something and then left right away. No time to talk. When I returned later in the evening, my parents and their friends were still around, so I talked with them a bit. The husband plays the violin, I have a violin, my dad wanted his friend to see it, I don't know how to play it (yet). We talked a little about the violin and then eventually went on their way. My dad told me that when his friend played my violin, it sounded beautiful. More than his own violin which he had brought. My mom said another thing. Apparently their daughter, after inhereting her grandmother's vintage hats, spawned a vintage interest, complete with thrift shopping.

A month ago, a woman who I am working with, also told me of her daughter in New York who is into the vintage ideals. This has happened before. I haven't met either daughters.

Here's one more story. A couple of months ago I went to see a Pink Martini concert, and while sitting in my seat, I saw a few rows down on the other side of the theater a man with a fedora and a suit walking. I watched him until the concert began, he eventually took his hat off. After the concert, I waited in the lobby to see if he'd come out. Luckily he did. There was a woman with him. We spoke, I told him about the lounge, and we went our ways.

So have you ever heard from someone else about someone like
"you" or ran into a "vintage" person who you had never met before, and hasn't joined anything like the lounge, or swing clubs, who might not even know there are others out there like themselves?

I was at my husbands unit a while back when one of the Marines approached me and asked me about my outfit. We started talking and he told me how his wife loved everything vintage and that the to of us should really meet up and chat. We finally met up at family day and I told her about the lounge.
I also was stopped at the flea market a few months ago by a guy my age who asked me if I was a re-enactor. I told him I wasn't but we chatted for a bit and I told him about the lounge too.....I think there's more of us out there than we realize

And I agree...you should meet the daughters :)

I always hope for this day - to meet that mysterious someone who is close to my age and loves vintage - but it hasn't happened here. And I really don't think it ever will. :(

The only contact I've had with "vintage" culture around here is from the elderly customers who used to shop at Home Depot when I briefly worked there. Every single one of them lit up when I mentioned the names of movie stars and musicians I adored. They all told me the same thing: "People your age usually aren't into this kind of thing! They usually like that rap music!" lol

i haven't met any "vintage" folk outside of the my circle of acquaintances and friends yet. in our little village, the Chief of Police's father flew in the Ploesti Oil raids, the village treasurer's son flies C-130's, and the Mayor is a navy man himself... so, were stocked with history buffs, but i'm the only local i know that dresses vintage in the whole lot.

however... the other day i did see a car from the early 40's and left a note for the owner to check out the lounge... we'll see. we could always use another afficionado around here, especially one with a sweet ride lol

Yes, I like the idea of the matchbook. What an impression if you saw some cat on the street, went up to him and mysteriously say "I've got something for you" hand it to him and then vanish into the night!

I love the idea of matchbooks. My mother has a collection of them that she saves and she doesn't even smoke. You throw away business cards, but keep matches. Smokers keep them to light up with, non-smokers keep them to light the grill, candles in case of power outage etc. You can't go wrong!

It'd be great to get one or more to visit the FL...especially the latter. NY area ladies don't tend to show up here often.

That may be, but If I were looking for a vintage chick, I don't know that I would rather live anywhere else than NYC. WIth all the jazz clubs, swing dancing etc, and the fashion industry I will bet that there are plenty and they are out and about to find. Am I wrong?
