Ok, let's see --

Cowboy hats: I own one Stetson "Gus", a Stetson Avanti, an Akubra Snowy River, a Hat Company "Old West" straw and a Boss of the Plains remake from D-bar-J hatmakers. I won't count the tacky hats I have, so I have 5 good western hats.

Fedoras: I have a navy blue 25X, two vintage Borsalinos, a brown Knox, a tan Knox with a two-toned hat band and trim, a Dobbs 15, a Stetson Indiana Jones (1984), a Village Hat Shop Iconoclast, a VHS black Bogart, a white creme fedora 60X, a Stetson Weekender, and a Champ dark brown fedora that looks like a shorter brimmed Indy hat. Plus two cheapie wool hats that I wear for fun when I want to wear a funky color. I also have a gray Borsalino that I rarely wear. It is a newer one and not as nice as my vintage hats. So, let's see that is 15 hats if you include the cheapies,

Caps: I have my B!Wear bone herringbone, B&W herringbone, dark blue corduroy cap. I have two J. Peterman Irish tweed caps, purchased a decade ago, one is dark with flecks of blue, one is lighter with flecks of green and gold. I also have wool caps from VHS; navy, black, camel, a Panzia tweed, plus an olive color silk cap I got off ebay from Dream-makers, and a light blue cap from somebody or another off ebay. I have an old gray boiled wool cap that I have had for almost 20 years. I used to wear it hiking. So, let's see, that is 12 caps.

I have also given away or sold even more fedoras, cowboy hats and caps. So, doing the fuzzy math, this hataholic has 32 hats and caps. Pretty good for an old gal.

I may be missing something.

Oh, yes, I have a straw fedora that I got at VHS. I had a light band put on it as I prefer light bands on light-colored hats. So, that is 33 total.

My friends think I am nuts, but I notice they happily take my hats when I give them one for their natal days, or whenever.

In trying to close the store and do an inventory of my vintage hats only it became a frightening experience. When I hit 1200 I was in shock.
Just set a few in a dark room Richard & they tend to multiply...

Hmmm... I thought that only happened to my hats. I am glad it is an epidemic. :p
1,200 hats. Gee, I thought you might have a few more than that. ;) Did you check the attic? It is dark in there and there are more than a few hats together in the dark. :)
So I guess hats are like Tribbles in the original Stark Trek. :p

Regards to all,

J

Please don't tell me that when I put most of my 33 hats in storage this fall they are going to multiply!!

When you store them be real sure you don't put a male hat in the same box with a female hat.

They will at some point think they are in love and have HATACOURSE and thats how you end of with more hats.

Caps have even been known to cross breed with a fedora and you get a Fedcapora.

They grow rather Quickly also a baby fedora is called a Hatlet. :) Most people don't know that!!

That is soooooo scary!

The things you learn on a Hataholics thread site....

PS I think I have seen some of those cross-breed hats (Fedcaporas). They are about as weird as a part chihuahua/Engish sheep dog.

Wow!!!

Today I got the nicest surprise a capaholic could ever get: retrieved a package from the post office and there was a box from B!Wear Caps. Inside the box was the most beautiful linen cap you could ever imagine -- it is a bright fuschia/red color and it fits me to a "T". Blue leather sweat band inside -- this is one cool cap! I was so excited, I wore it to the office this afternoon -- and a number of women there were envious.

And I know who ordered it for me -- Roger, you are a dear soul and a man of his word. I cannot thank you enough for this beautiful cap. Will send you a PM.

And, of course, Brett, everytime you make a cap you outdo yourself.
Now, I am hooked on linen caps. This beauty will be the first of several. Guys, you gotta go for the linen, hot weather is coming. It was hot out today and the linen felt good.

Thank you, I am overwhelmed.

Now James -- if my new fushia cap breeds with a wool cap, they will probably produce one looking somewhat like the red turtle you said you were sending.

I have my new cap on as I write this, am going to wear it to work again today and also take my other caps so my friend takes photos of them. I hope she remembers to bring her camera.

I think I am going to go for the light camel/tan linen cap next. Brett sent me a swatch and it is neat, would make a great hot weather cap.

Am off the wagon again. I need to see a photo of another repulsive hat. James, help!!

Ewwww!!

That is one yucky hat!!

I see those things in some hat stores, even the Village Hat Shop carries "costume" hats. People who never wear hats will wear them when they are drunk on a holiday. I saw some green striped ones during the St. Paddy's Day parade here.

Thank you, James. It has put me off buying hats for a good week or so.

If I can discern from the last few holidays around here, more than you think. And usually young people in or barely out of their teens.

I've worn top hats for fun before, but.....

I'd rather wear a lime-green Kmart straw (plastic straw) hat....

That seller, I just checked has sold 520 items on ebay and they all seem to be weird hats. Here is one to put you off your lunch:

Now, which one would you choose to wear, the striped cat-in-the-hat or this thing?

That's a thought. At present I have a red-white-blue visor. I don't wear it because I really don't like visors, though I have friends and a mother who do.

Wore my fuschia beauty to a casino today with a friend, and got complements on it there, too. My friend loved it and loved the feel of the linen.

Oh, oh, bad enough I go to a casino, now I am beginning to feel the urge to buy another....

OK, OK, I am cured for the moment. Whew!

What am I looking at here? What is it and why would anyone pay that kind of money for it?
