It is maybe the size of a ballpoint.... anyone think this can be mended? it is close to the armpit and hard to see but there none the less. :(

Behind the 8 ball,..
If you're handy, and the tiny little hole bothers you that much, you could reweave it yourself. If you can find a loose piece of the fabric's thread, (the frayed ends where the trouser cuffs are hemmed is a good source) you can fill the hole with a couple of carefully placed stitches. Be sure to follow the pattern of the weave as close as possible.

Wear the jacket only at night and in low lightinglol

I am also guessing that you have already completed a careful inspection and this is the only small hole.

I had a similar problem today. I went out looking for my first vintage suit, and found a perfect, double breasted, pinstripe suit with a tag saying it's from 1940. Even better, it looks like it could have been tailored to fit me! The only problem is, it's got quite a few little moth holes. It's on hold while I try to find someone who can repair it, but I'm just wondering, a lot of people said they don't lose sleep over one little hole, but at what point do you? How many holes are too much?

They came down a lot on the price, but I won't be buying it unless I know I can get them mended. The lady in the store was almost rude, telling me I was obsessing over something no one would notice. She also suggested. Filling in the little white spots of the lining that showed through with a blue sharpie. Yeah that's classy!

Reweavers

Atlanta Reweavers (I'm pretty sure thats the name) is a very good place whom I've used a number of times. When I get to the store I'll get the number out of my rolodex and post it for you.

But if it really is that small of a hole, you should be able to take it to a seamstess or alterations place, and they could do a little something - a hole that small is fairly easy to manage.

LindyTap, what would worry me is not the holes that you see. But those that are about to appear.

I have a friend that thought there was only one or two little holes in his jacket. after a long day of wearing, he was lightly brushing it and one then another and other appeared.

On a seperate note I have a pair of black slacks and they have a small hole on the left leg just above the ankle. The fix? Black socks! Wear them just about weekly.

I am confused. Did the holes appear because he brushed it? Holes should be due to wear (not one day's worth) or moths.

Do you think your friend did not notice the holes until he brushed and made a better inspection of the garment?

I had a similar thought, I'm a lindy hopper, and I was going to wear this suit to a dance in October. If the suit has holes in it, who knows what will happen when I dance in it! However, this suit looked to be in great condition other than the moth holes. But it does still worry me, so maybe I should stick with modern pants and just get a vintage jacket to reduce the risk?
