The Stetson Rosetta Stones?

I have quite a few Stetson hat boxes that are deteriorating rapidly, so I decided to take photos of the various markings that were stamped the the box and the factory, along with the interesting scratchings that were added by the staff at Hirsch's over the years.

This is history...

What I think will be very interesting is cataloguing some of the styles that we don't normally see from Stetson -- like the "Weekender."

But what really interests me is the fact that we will get to see firsthand some of Stetson's different colors: "Sky Grey", "Cork", "Quail", "Holly". I'm looking forward to it.

Cheers,
JtL

Those seem to be the larger boxes in which Stetson would have shipped several hats to the retailer, who would then rebox them individually at point of sale. I think many hatters had their own retail boxes. It would have saved shipping expense as well to have more than one hat for a box.

Excellent documentation, Johnnyphi. These photos are a treasure few of us would normally see.

Exactly...

You're exactly right. These boxes are designed to hold 3 hats, per box. I can ask the owner how they boxed the hats at point of sale.

Here's an example from the attic:

It's elaborate, but not a put on...

It's the real deal... The problem is that I'm basically a one man show... I only have time to work on this project on weekends, and this is less than half of the original inventory...

I'm making progress, but it takes time to photograph and inventory the hats in a way that enables me to sell them individually.

Thanks again to everyone for your patience.

Oh, man, I can't wait!!! Do you have any idea how many of us dream for something like that to happen to us? In the last month I have had two such dreams.

For those that haven't heard of Johnnyphi and his find, you can visit this thread for some detail -> Johnnyphi

Also, go to the "Merchants" section and click back a few pages. You'll find the auctions of those hats.
