Hello all,

There's a cobbler here in Taipei that has agreed to make me custom shoes from photos that I bring to him. Of course, the Florsheim catalog posted a month ago is a big help here. I'm thinking "The Embassy" looks pretty sweet. Unfortunately, I need a pair of tassled loafers for my Bermuda shorts and can't find good photos of a nice pair. Any photos or old advertisements lying around that you good people might be willing to share?

My choices: The Brooks Brothers if you plan to wear the traditional Bermudian hose. The Weejun if you plan to go sockless.

Those Weejuns are gorgeous, but then Bass do make my favourite loafers. Fringed and tasselled loafers were the shoe of choice in my suedehead days, but we never wore shoes as elegant as those.

'Suedehead' OMG ! I'd almost forgotten that name - wasn't the outfit one of black or navy Crombie overcoat, 'two-tone' suit/trousers, heavy brogues or loafers, braces (suspenders), Ben Sherman shirt. Weren't red socks the order of the day too ?lol

Yep, that's the one, developing when skinheads grew their hair out in 1970/71, and also retaining the Harrington jackets (cheap knock-offs of the Baracuta G9 for those who couldn't afford the real thing from The Ivy Shop in Richmond), and Levi Sta-Prest for a more casual look. Trousers always had to be a couple of inches above the shoes to best show off the red socks. That was when I picked up my love for American wingtip brogues and beef-roll loafers - those are still the only styles of shoe I wear.

I've gone through 4 or 5 pairs in the past 35-40 years. The last suited me to a tee and the workmanship was excellent. My final pair was bought a decade or so ago and so I can't vouch for them other than to say that they are Swiss and that that should carry some weight.
