Here is the final chapter with before and after pictures. I went with the porkpie becaus I am particularly fond of it.

Nice job! I like to use woolite fabric cleaner on my hats. The bubbles clean the felt deep and it leaves a nice scent behind. Just spray then brush once the foam fades away and let air dry.

Thank you one and all for the kind compliments. The hat is very versatile. I just recieved a Botny 500 houndstooth and tossed it on tonight with it...peeeerrrrrrfect.

As to the drink...that is a specific twist on a clasic and one of my favs. Its a Saphire Gin Gimlet (Saphire gin and Rose's lime juice...normally) but I reduce the Rose's and add fresh lime juice then stir or shake it in a cocktail mixer and serve it up in a chilled martini glass. My addition...two cocktail onions. The sweetness of the Roses and the the tartness of the lime...the berry of the gin...and the saltiness of the onion...makes for a wonderful sweet and sour drink effect. Just the ticket after a long day in the studio.

Feel free to use the receipe. But if you order do so carefully...because the bartender will try to make you a Gibson...not the same.

BTW...Golden Era Martinis....didn't use Vodka...in fact "ture" martini drinkers specifically request/require Gin and consider the Vodka martin to be a poor "intruder" to the clasic.

I'm not sure what you're talking about (harrumph):

A Martini is made with Gin and a dash or two of Vermouth and an olive with the pit, while a Vodkatini or Vodka Martini is made with vodka, an amount of Vermouth unbeknownst to me, and an olive or some lemon peel. Don't like Vodka (or disinfectant spirit, for that matter).

Whichever Bond actor you side with concerning "shaken or stirred", a Martini is always just stirred - it'd be ruined otherwise. Stir it in waltz time, if you like.

Martinis originally were made with somewhere around a 3-to-1 or 4-to-1 ratio Gin to Vermouth, a ratio I prefer.

Speaking of waltz time, in The Thin Man, Nick Charles advocates shaking the Martini in waltz time.lol I prefer mine shaken. I like the sharpness the aeration imparts, and the cloudiness settles out in no time. It also gets the Martini ice-cold more quickly. Sure, you get ice slivers, but those are part of the charm.

I agree fully....thats the proper alcohol for a martini ....but you better be clear with the bartender of you will many times und up with a Vodka martini. Just my experience. Its my understanding the that Bond books had them stirred (something about "bruising" alcohol) and the actor got the line backwards...and it stuck.

Shaken/stirred: no idea, and somehow not important enough too google it.

I hope you didn't take that too serious anyway. I like a martini rather dry, but not only is this different on occasion, but I don't claim that's the "correct" way.

Also, I never went through a blind test with shaken and stirred martinis. (And I really don't understand vodka - with Russian moonshine vodka, the expression "blind test" gets an entirely new aspect - but that's a matter of taste :D .)

Glare at the vermouth

I've heard it attributed to Winston Churchill that the perfect martini is made by pouring 3 shots of gin while glaring at the vermouth across the room.

or....as I like to make them, 4 shots of gin and then I turn and face France. Either way, the drier the better.

As for bruising the gin by shaking it. I say, drink stronger gin :)

Oh, and nothing against Tanqueray or Bombay Sapphire (fun colour), but Plymouth Navy Strength seems to be the choice for me.

Hmmmmm...never had the Plymouth....or even seen it here on the West coast. I guess I will have to put on my rebuilt HAT and see if I can' find it (gratutious mention of "hat" provided to keep the post in the proper bounds)
