I have a March 22, 1978 Alpha Industries MA-1 with vertical windflap stitching, as opposed to the typical zig-zag stitching, which is a rarity. It is a size Large. See photos for measurements.
As seen in the movie "The Hunter" starring Steve McQueen in his final role. If you've watched the movie you may have noticed how prominently his MA-1 was displayed in almost every scene. Of all the cool clothing items he has been known for, I don't think any held as much screen time as his MA-1.
There was discussion that maybe it was a Greenbrier, but the Greenbrier with vertical stitching that I owned was older. It was one of the items stolen when my dad's apartment was robbed a couple of years ago, so I can't check the exact date, but I believe it was from 1974. The Alpha's I've seen are from 1978 and I think that makes more sense since pre production for "The Hunter" most likely took place in 1979 and they would likely have acquired multiple new jackets for the film.
The nylon is in excellent condition and still has nice luster to it. The knits are another matter, I'm guessing moths got to them. If not for the knits, I would say the jacket was New Old Stock NOS condition. I'm including a pair of brand new replacement knits from flightjacketknits.com
I'm also including an extra 1978 Alpha jacket with vertical stitched windflap. It's an XL, that runs short, from the same March 22, 1978 jacket group. It is in well worn and used condition, with some staining and puncturing. If you want this jacket, you will just have to pay for the additional shipping.
I'm would like $150 shipped in the US.
$168.75 for both jackets shipped.
Bonus Jacket:
