Well, I just got a very modernistic hat off of ebay. It is a souvenir hat from the 1933 Century of Progress Chicago?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s World?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Fair. Not very common and in good condition. I don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t see too many of these around. I collect 1933-34 Chicago and 1939-1940 New York/San Francisco world?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s fair memorabilia.

Thought I would post this under hats since it is a hat. Something to brake the monotony.

Thanks man! I can't wait till it comes in the mail. Just sent the guy a paypal yesterday. So, it should be in the mail to me by now.

I'll take some photos of me with it on when I get it. LOL If it fits.

Well, if it don't fit, then I'll have it on diplay in my room some where. Yeah, when the time comes and I have a family I would take some photos of a future little boy with it on. Take it some place where there are some nice old buildings to make it look like he's at the Century of Progress.

Oh, what fun to have with this hat.

then remembering what happened in the decade that follows.

By that are you referring to WWII? Do you consider WWII a step backwards? It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s funny because as I have studied about WWII and have seen what changes came out of the war, it really was a Century of Progress! I believe that the war really sped things up! For example aircraft design, before the war most aircraft were still bi-winged aircraft that had no retractable landing gear! Also, aircraft became sleek and faster in many ways! The P-51 Mustang can reach speeds of over 400mph! Also, the Jet engine was invented. Radar was invented along with the technology of the microwave! Also, nuclear power was discovered. That was a mixed blessing for sure. It can be used for good, but it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s mostly a used for bad.

Yes, it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s disappointing that it would take a war to improve our world, but when a war is going on and you want it to stop sooner, then things get done faster and progress is quickened.

I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ll also give you the reason why the Chicago fair used a Century of Progress. Chicago was celebrating 100 years of progress from 1833 - 1933 I think that it was a proper slogan. There were many good things that were invented between 1833 and 1933.

I know that you would agree that today may have more advanced gadgets but, I feel we lost a lot of good old fashion principles because of it. Computers and machinery seem to build every thing now days. Sad to see machinery replace people.

Well, there you have it, the reason behind the Century of Progress.

Things were certainly improved and refined post-war, but I don't think anything was actually invented to equal the impact of radio, motion pictures, the airplane, the car, plastic or television.

Well, they did make a few more Colored films during and after the war. I feel that was a significant change. TV was put on hold during the war. It, like radios were just a house hold item that would have to wait till the boys came home. Plastics were invented and used pre-war! Bakelite, Catalin, and Lucite were very good plastics. I wish they still made Bakelite. You could heat Bakelite to very high temps and it won?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t melt! If dropped it will crack and shatter, but it won?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t melt!

The point that I wanted to make is that we didn't take a step backwards fighting in WWII. That's all. :D
