The Goodwood Motor Circuit Revival, Let's Go!!

While watching Discover HD the other day I came across the broadcast of The Goodwood Revival. Wow, is it amazing. It is a three day motor race that takes place in England. It is the most popular motor race in the world. It truly is a step back in time, not just a motor race. It is a tribute to the Goodwood Motor Races of the past that took place from 1948 to 1966. All of the cars involved in the race are from this era. The entire race is vintage, everything from the setup to the spectators, to the drivers. It really is a lovely step back to a time when motor racing was a romantic outing that was enjoyed by many.
Check out Glorious Goodwood to learn more about this fantastic vintage event. The site is very informative, giving information not only about the cars but the drivers, the people who visit. There are even directions on how to "get the look", so if you are planning on going to next years event, you will know how to dress the era. For the entire event no vehicle made after 1966 is allowed into the circuit. This even includes the support vehicles. All cars and trucks that are there to support the cars in the race are vintage. Such vintage cars as Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Bugati, Astin Martin and Ferrari compete in a series of 12 different races. Races are by invitation only, from the Earl of March. There is a lot of info on The Glorious Goodwood website, as well as great pictures of the race cars. Glorious is the perfect name for this site. For from what I have seen on both the site and on Discovery HD, it certainly does look glorious. I think I just found the perfect spot for our next Fedora Lounge event!
Watching it really reminded me of the motor race in the movie "Bright Young Things". I'm convinced that Stephen Frye must have gone to the Goodwood event before filming the race scene in his film.

Goodwood is a fantastic race, if you ever get the chance to go. It's so much more interesting than today's NASCAR "go fast, turn left" races. It's generally written up in most of the UK car magazines (Classic and Sportscar, Thoroughbred & Classic Cars, etc.) but unfortunately gets very little ink in the States. There's nothing quite like seeing sixty and seventy year old race cars roaring around a track. . . the smell, the sound, to me it's intoxicating! The Monte Carlo Historic Rally is also worth looking into if you're into vintage motorsports. Someone once described it as "flying a helicopter in your living room", which is an apt description, given the narrow, twisty streets of Monte Carlo.

Ah yes, The Monte Carlo Historic Rally, I have seen pictures. That would be quite the event. Just being in Monte Carlo would be an adventure worth taking.

I've not been to the Revival, but I have been a few times to the Festival of Speed. It's a wonderful day out, and I have ambitions to go to the Revival at some point. It costs an absolute bomb to get in though, which is why I haven't been yet.

I was reading a British car magazine and they had a 1920s racer blasting around a bend at speed. The driver was leaning out toward the inside of the turn, and even in his leather helmet and goggles, you could see the determination on his face.

The driver was Blackadder himself, Rowan Atkinson, and it turns out he has quite a collection of vintage race cars.

I've not been to the Revival, but I have been a few times to the Festival of Speed. It's a wonderful day out, and I have ambitions to go to the Revival at some point. It costs an absolute bomb to get in though, which is why I haven't been yet.

I'm so jealous that you've been to the festival. It sounds great.
The information I have on the Revival is great, but it say's nothing about cost. Have you any idea of how much it cost's to get in? Of course it'd be even more expensive for me, since I'd have to get to your side of the world too! But, I'm do for a trip to dear old England. Golly, I just love it there.
I've got to stop going to the revival's website. It's really making me want to go. I just love how they have information on how to dress! They'd never do that for an event here in the states. Could you imagine having a dress code at a nascar race??? I think that would be great, but I sure don't think the fans would appreciate it! Not that I'm comparing Nascar to Goodwood, there is no comparison!!

From what I hear (courtesy of my Uncle Charles), the man collects Aston Martins. To do any one of them justice requires a driver, so I think I'll guess that his style favours the former.

Visiting Goodwood..

Hello, if anybody from the States is thinking about attending the Revival or the Festival of speed then i would be only to happy to assist in any way. I,m a Goodwood Road Racing Club Member and live close by to the circuit and Goodwood House. It might seem a little expensive but rest assured after a few minutes of soaking up the atmosphere then I,m confident that you will agree its an absolute bargain, TV programmes and photos do not do the events justice !!..If anybody wants some photos e-mailed just let me know.
