One thing that comes up often is trying to date a hat and sometimes with ad's and various info you can get a feel for the production date of your vintage hat.

A fair number of us are either purchasing new hats or considering making a purchase of a fine new hat. WELLLLL, I thought about it and said, perhaps when ever a new hat gets bought and you're sure it's a keeper, you might consider writing the year or complete date of your purchase inside the sweat band OR maybe create your best version of the "reorder card" with the date to slip inside the hat. That way 60 years from now an intrepid young man with a sense of style that's bought your hat at an estate sale, will know about as much about that vintage hat he's buying as you can possibly pass on.

And for a vintage hat you can do the same, listing what you do know.

Much like those picture of relatives that we don't know much about, there is no time like the present to record the information, because so quickly is it lost!

Custom Hat Card.pdf

I designed a custom hat card for those interested. You will need Acrobat to view the file, the cards are set 12 per 8.5x11" page, with crop marks to trim down to 1.5x3". I suggest taking the file to Kinkos' and printing out some on an acid free paper so they will last through the years. If anyone from Europe wants me to set this up on A4 paper let me know and I'll post a modified copy. Just right click on the following link and then "Save As" to your hard drive. http://www.robertreznik.com/hats/Hat%20Card.pdf

Many Thanks Silver Halo!

That is a superb idea, thanks for the workup of the cards. I have to go to Office Depot to print up some more resumes and cover letters, Monday, so I can do this on card stock then.

With heartfelt thanks,

Hi silverHalo,
great idea, well done!!
I'm from Europe, but I'll use your sized card.
Only a question, could you tell me what kind of paper do you say?
Couldn't I use a normal cardboard lightweight?

Many thanks.
Riccardo.

Is made without the use of sulfuric acid which speeds the paper making process by breaking down the fibers used. It's fast and cheap, but unfortunately the action of the acid never stops, it just keeps working until the paper turns yellow, brittle, and falls apart. Anything which is in close contact with such paper for any length of time will also be similarly affected. So it's not something you would want in close contact with a valuable hat.
Office supply stores here carry many differant acid free papers for PC printers. I'm sure they do in Europe also.

You are most welcome, Riccardo.

Another source for acid free paper is an art supply store, although I'm not sure if artist's drawing papers could be used in a printer. (I think I'll try it myself to see if it works! :) )
