I've got a feeling that the falling dollar is going to price most decent jackets out of my range soon. If you want to buy a horsehide jacket, now might be the time. In dollar terms, I don't think they'll ever be cheaper again than they are today.

Buy domestic. Johnson Leathers of San Francisco does beautiful work, and Alan is very easy to work with and does a lot of custom jackets. I'm sure you could collaborate on something really special. He makes the leather jackets for the Northern California police and he also makes a lot of vintage-style jackets for the Japanese markets. I have a jacket coming, in fact.

Lots of American choices. Lost Words and Schott out of New York, Vanson in Fall River, MA, and of course Goodwear in Seattle.

We're already a dealer for Vanson and Schott. Goodwear doesn't wholesale. And Lost Worlds........... LOL....Aero's a great brand and despite the dollar being weak, we continue to carry their gear!:eusa_clap

Is there an American choice that offers the variety of styles, custom options, and fit that Aero offers?

Foreigners will benefit, but the price of horsehide will go up too, so some of that benefit will be lost to higher input costs. But yes, your horsehide dollar will go farther.

Langlitz is another great choice. Their 1947 horsehide Columbia is the greatest motorcycle jacket in production today. But it's also $2500.

Johnson Leathers will make just about anything. The Chromexel leather is exclusive for Aero only.JL horsehide will look more like Lost Worlds IMO.

I've never considered clothing purchases with an eye on currency fluctuations.

I wish I could say the same.... alas, the relatively strong dollar over the past couple of years is what has ruled out a GoodWear for me. At the peaks, there has been GBP200 odds of a difference!

The very weak GBP that has helped our exports has made imported jackets very expensive here in the UK. Some items are 30 % more expensive than they were a couple of years ago. The cost of imported skins has also meant that jacket prices have risen considerably. Sheepskin for example has doubled in price.

I'm pretty sure Alan at JL told me just the other day that he can get the chromexel horsehide from Horween.
It is also used by various shoe manufacturers. So I don't think it's exclusive to Aero.
