I, too, am among the fortunate 10 who own that particular model. It's quite a "dressy" hat, so it doesn't see everyday use. And its light color had me concerned about getting it dirty. I wore it to a memorial gathering (couldn't really call it a "service") a couple of weeks ago, and then put it back in its box.
Today saw winter make what I hope is its last appearance of the year. Heavy, slushy snow and high winds came and went throughout the day. It gave me an excuse to wear my long wool-and-cashmere blend coat and my new hat. What the heck, I thought, the coat is but a coat and the hat is a hat. They're for protection from the elements and for making their wearer look good, so wear the darn things. The coat can always go to the drycleaners and if the hat starts showing sign of wear I have everything I need to touch it up right here.
I got caught out in some heavy weather a couple of times today. Both the coat and the hat got a good dousing. Pleased to report they both came through it apparently none the worse for the experience.
My tight-fistedness is such to occasionally cause embarrassment in friends and family, but I know that cheaply made garments are false economy. Quality materials and workmanship last.

I think that had should be nicknamed "The Second Deadly Sin" for it really inspires envy in me. The hat color and the ribbon are a terrific combo. Art, keep it going on the light pastels til I find the green for my envy. Congrats to you guys that have these, they are stunning. Eric

That's a really great photograph. Very crisp, a great angle, just enough background...and about the hat. This is definitely a case, to my eye, where the hat and the wearer are one. Good looking suit and tie. It's the whole package, yes? Each item compliments the others - the hat, the wearer, the suit. Good show!

So did I read right? Only 10 "Eddie G's"? Are they all gone? I know Art was going to use only his vintage ribbon for some of these special hats. Is it now a bygone era? I am almost finished with the job I am working on right now, and was hoping to give Art a call about a new lid.

Thanks for the post WEEGEE and the pics..you do the hat justice!!
Gent's, Thank you for the kind words. As many hats as I will make, I always need the feedback. TonyB, thank you for wearing it out in the rain and reporting the results. Although it is pure beaver I also mist it with waterproofing as part of the process but have no way of knowing whether it is working unless people tell me their experiences. I'd like everyone to know that I want to someday be considered "one of the best", a class I don't feel I have earned, and to do that I need to look at problems with my methods/materials, etc. so that I can learn and improve. Without that I can never achieve my personal goal. Whether it said privately or publically, I need to know. A case in point that hasn't come out publically is that I was using the conformer wrong with the first few hats. I had to resize 4 hats to make them right but I gained an "inside" knowledge that will prove powerful in the future.
Cabinetman, I would love to make a hat for you when you are ready. I explained my concept a few months ago but will repeat it for you and others so you understand.
I decided to make no more than 10 hats per version for several reasons. The first is a practical one. Since I use only vintage ribbon in these designs the ribbon supply is limited. At some point, when I run out of that particular ribbon, the design HAS to stop. This hat, the "Eddie G" uses a ribbon that I had very limited supply of so had to cut orders off there, at 10. That has sortof become "the number" that I can live with.
A second more esoteric reason is that Janene and I have changed our entire lifestyle, location, and attitude with the idea of trying to enjoy what time the creator allows us instead of just plowing ahead 24/7/365 building businesses and not really enjoying our lives. With that in mind, and looking at the new hat business, I decided I didn't want to become a "hat factory" so needed a way to keep it fun for me. By limiting the "run" I can keep it fresh and therefore keep it fun. Of course, I will always build "one of" hats for my clients because that doesn't require a set amount of a specific ribbon and frees up the creative juices that keeps me having fun.
Geeze, didn't mean to write a novel, sorry guys!!!

Enjoy

Wow Art! I hope that all of your "Limited Editions" are as wonderful as what we seen so far. To strive for improvement and to make the best is not seen as much as it once was or an outlook shared by the produces of goods these days.

Congrats on another fine Fedora!

Excellent on all accounts! A very sweet looking hat, Art and WeeGee, you show it off so well with the composition of the picture (I take it you are the photographer also?) My congratulations to both of you! :arated:

Wonderful hat

So Art, now that you moved away and abandoned me:p , who's your ribbon color match consultant/advisor? Bet you are getting better production now that the "entertaining" of customers has become limited:fing28:

That hat is beautiful....and summer is coming, so "think straw".

I have on of the 10

And I have to confirm what the others have said; this is just a beautiful hat. Great detail work. I was also one of the folks that Art had a small conformer problem with, and I am here to report that when Art finished, the hat fit my head like no other I have ever owned. And dealing with Art is just a pleasure from start to finish. So, however briefly, my hat is off to Art.

Art, all the talk in the other posts about hat names, sourdough, and now you caught in a blizzard.....how about a hat called the Donner Pass? High fiber fur and a chewy leather band mmm mmm mmm good to have in a pinch if you get snowed in like we do here in Minnesota. Heck the liner would make a great napkin. Sorry, still shaking off the cabin fever.
