I re-discovered this Knox stingy brim (2") under a couple of other hats and it needed to be re-creased, so I took the opportunity to give it a Diamond:

I'm not a long oval as the tags indicate, but the hat fits me quite comfortably...maybe a little narrow. :p Hard to see in the photos, but the edge of the brim is folded over on top and sewn down; I forget what that's called. The brim itself has a rather shallow flange, but the front stays whether it's snapped up or down. The WAR is just under 2-1/4" wide and, I forgot to get a photo but, the hat has a back bow. It's really a nice hat in very good condition for whatever it's age is.

I’m a novice basher and would appreciate some critique from y’all on this. I’m going for a diamond but the back part still wants to curve a little. I actually like it but I wonder if I should keep trying.

Hey Gary. I like the outcome of your crease.

Suggestion from the peanut gallery: Start the hat in a C crown and use your fingers to work a defined rear diamond is what I do. With your hat if you wish a more defined crease in the rear of the fedora, like Mighty 44's post a couple back you need a bit more felt to work with, IMO. Bring the height of the hat down in the rear, aka "tugboat style" (https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/how-to-get-that-tugboat-shape.37907/page-2) and it would give you some felt to work with. My experience is that a diamond requires a lot of crown (open crown felt height).

Steaming the open crown is my start to working a defined crease. In truth most of my hats start somewhere and end up elsewhere.

Just an add here is a thread that has some great ideas/pics of crease options for different hats (shapes and sizes) - https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/what-is-your-favorite-hat-crease.56660/page-2

Here is the definitive Workshop on Teardrop crease (Jimmy The Lid's efforts) - https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/teardrop-workshop.38228/

Cheers, Eric -

Thank you Eric, that is very helpful. Exactly the kind of info I was looking for.
By the way here’s how I got to where I’m at now

Gary - that is GENIUS. Thanks for sharing that!
Lol thanks but not exactly genius - just convenient timing. We use those old clothespins as chip bag clips. I was eating potato chips and holding one of them in my hand while wondering how I could get those folds tighter. I put a little steam on it while the clips were there. So far so good. I almost didn’t post that picture - thinking I’d get laughed at

Just keep in mind that the tighter you crease that felt, the more difficult it will be to eliminate it the next time you decide you want to re-crease that hat.
