The cravat pin

I am very glad to have found the fedora lounge. I now feel that there may be a place for my taste afterall.

I thought I would share with you that when I got married five years ago now I wore a cravat to the wedding. I had to have it made by a seamstress, since would you believe it is almost impossible to find a retailer that will sell cravats (apart from the fake ones which I would not accept).

When it came time to match my buttons with a nice cravat pin, I was horrified that not only would nobody sell me one, nobody even knew what I was talking about. There is a store near me entitled the tie rack, and even they did not know what a cravat pin was. They sold loads of ties but only fake cravats and bow ties. Shame on them.

What is the world coming to? I even had to make my own cravat pin.

I actually have had to use lapel pins some of which are not period but rather whimsical. Finding cravats is a chore in itself since most retail stores have that "What are you talking about?" look on their faces when you ask them about cravats. I have managed to find a few online that are cleaned up and authentic but finding pins are near impossible. Occasionally you can find them under miscellaneous jewelry or tie pins.

Cravat pins are rare as hens' teeth it seems. I have a very old one that was my grandfather's I wore when I wore ties. Have to look for it just for old times sake!
