COVET!!! So nice! Congrats! :D
Thanks, Rick. You're just trying to soften me up. :p

Thanks, Ant. It's a treasure.

Spectacular Boots!
Thank you, Fed.

Congrats Greg, one of the grail finds
Hey, Mike. Thanks bud. Where have you been.

This hat is truly amazing. Do you think the one small tag with "65" might be a year built?
My thoughts exactly, Red but I'm unsure.

Hello. Brand new to the forum. I recently bought a Cavanaugh fedora on Ebay. After closer inspection I found there was no markings on the sweatband. Can any Cavanaugh people, out there, tell me if this is a likely sweat replacement.

The pictures did not come through. Cavanagh sweatbands can have very little imprinting... sometimes just owner initials sometimes "Cavanagh Edge" at the front of the sweatband. They will never ever say Cavanaugh.

Some eBay sellers will reference Cavanagh (or the misspelling) for a hat with a felted edge. Searching eBay completed listings I found one such hat with "Cavanaugh" in the title. That hat has no connection with Cavanagh. The brim is an over welt rather than a felted edge in the Cavanagh fashion. Hope this is not the one you bought. Does your hat have a Cavanagh liner?

Yes it has a clean and nice 40's Cavanagh liner. Its a beautiful 2 3/4 brimmed hat. Not nearly as soft as my Strat. But again its my first Cavanaugh. Also I found something else that was suspect. It has a duplicate label under the sweat marked size 6 7/8 and the hat was sold as a 7 1/8. It fits and measures just a bit under 7 1/8. That's quite a large stretch from 6 7/8 to 7 1/8. With a generic sweatband in addition the discrepant duplicate label , it seems apparent that the hat is altered in some way. Does it not? Sorry for the no photos. I am having trouble uploading them . i am usually pretty good at that sort of thing.

The style and bow look similar to my wife's Cavanagh, which came with the box and looks to be 1950's.

I have a Royal Stetson that had a small liner in place of the original. If you pushed the hat down low, where I like it to be, it would pull on the front crown and cause a crumpled look to the felt. That sort of thing surely could be the case here. But the stitching looks right on the sweat.

Unfortunately for me, this hat was sold as 7-3/8 when the label under the sweat is marked, correctly, as 6-7/8.... which is why it is now the hat of MrsFed.

MrsFed's Cavanagh only has the initials of the owner and the selling merchant name embossed on the sweat.

So if the sweat has a Cavanagh name it is a phony? I have two early 60s Cavanagh stingies that both have Cavanagh Edge at the front of the sweat, but they do have the brand name on the sweat. The Thirty has it but the $16.50 priced one does not. The hats feel identical except for the quality of the felt. I'm confused now Alan.
